Hey Everyone!! We just found out we are expecting and have been looking up some names. For a girl Alivia and for a boy Anden. We both like unique/different names. What do you think? Thanks!
Alivia isn't unique or different, it's a misspelling of Olivia, one of the most popular girl names around right now, and your child would have to continually correct people and tell them how to spell her name. If you like the sound of Alivia, just spell it Olivia. Anden is alright, but did you google Anden? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anden

I agree with all the PPs - Alivia is not a new name, and you should just use Olivia if you want that sound. I do, however, like the name Anden. And I can't figure out why it matters if you've read that Wikipedia article or not. That would not deter me from a name I was interested in.
I think you should name your children whatever YOU like!
Don't worry about what other people say/think!!
My first son has a very unique name that noone liked, but I went with what my husband and I liked. I'm glad I didn't listen to others when they made a face or told me they didn't like it.

Because if you're going to name a baby a name that's not a real name, shouldn't you know what it means? I would google any name I decided on, to make sure there weren't any bad associations.
Honestly, I hate them both. I have never really liked the name Olivia, and I think Alivia is just terrible. I am a Spanish speaker and had to stare at it a while before realizing it was like Olivia, not the way you would pronounce it in Spanish. And I think Anden just sounds like you pulled some scrabble letters out of a bag and saw how close you could get to an actual name with them. If you love the names, by all means use them. But I wouldn't if it were me.

It kind of sounds like you're taking popular names and trying to make them "unique." Alivia = Olivia, as PP mentioned, and Anden reminds me a whole lot of Aiden. There will probably be many mix ups and frustrations with teachers in school and future jobs because they are so similar to actual "normal" name that are popular right now. But if that's not a big deal to you, and you like the names, then go for it.
I like Alivia (one of my friend's DD is name Alyvia and she is the sweetest little girl. That being said, I like unique names but Anden sounds kinda weird to me. I won't be using a "common" name for my baby either so if you like it, go for it mama!
I like the spelling of Alivia. I think it's pretty and a little different.
What difference will that make except on paper? Or when she has to correct people 50 million times in her life?
I do really like the name Olivia but would avoid it because it's so popular right now (and because DH hates it), but if that doesn't bother you, then go for it, but please spell it correctly.
And I seem to be in the minority here, but I don't mind Anden nearly as much as some of the names that are really popular right now. It wouldn't make me cringe.

Honestly, Alivia kinda makes my brain hurt cause I wanna read Olivia =p I do like the sound though if that's what you're going for. Otherwise I don't like Anden, it sounds too much like Arden which is really close to the name of a city I commute to for the military.

My mom is Caren....her entire life she has said "Caren with a C"....so your Alivia would have to say "Olivia only with an A instead of an O".....it's a pretty name, but the consequences of a unique name may outweigh your desire to give your child a unique name.
I think you should name your children whatever YOU like!

Naming a child isn't just about the parents. It's about the child. If everyone hates the name then it probably isn't a good idea. Good chance the child will hate it too and they are the one who is stuck with it or stuck hurting their parents feeling when they change their god awful name.

These really aren't unique -- they are just weird versions of really common names. Alivia = Olivia and Anden = Aiden.
Alivia would hate the fact that she needs to spell her name for people constantly -- I grew up with a really strange last name that no one could ever pronounce or spell correctly, and it sucked.
I like them both..:) I wouldn't ask for too many opinions because they are just that...opinions..And its your kid and you get to name them what YOU like...I'm not a huge fan of Olivia just because it is very popular no matter how you spell it..And I like Anden because it's unique but not crazy..:) My cousin just named her son Camden and it reminds me of that...

I like different names too, but these are not cool. Alivia is just Olivia and Olivia is much prettier. Anden reminds me of the Spanish word for platform--your train is on anden 2. Haha, but I lived in Spain for 4 years so it would be hard to get that out of my head.
Anden also sounds to me like you were going to name him Aiden and decided to add an n to make it you-neek.
Maybe OP doesn't want the name to be pronounced "OH-livia" and wants to make sure it's pronounced "AH-livia". There is quite a difference there. As for Anden, it could grow on me. I do think how it looks on paper is as important as how it sounds. There are a ton of popular names that people have to correct spelling on even though they are common ("Is that 'Sara' or 'Sarah'?", "Is that 'Jeff' or 'Geoff'?", etc). To be honest, I don't think her kids would hate her because of the way their names are spelled. DD's name is "Rylee", which we chose instead of "Riley" b/c the latter could be a boys' name. There are a lot of people who spell that name differently, so even if we went with the most common people would be asking her how to spell it. I don't think it's gonna give her a complex or anything.

True - I was getting upset at my husband shooting down every name I threw out there, but he would point out possible ways that the name could be made fun of or why it sounded funny. Our last name starts with an "N", so a middle name ending with "N" just doesn't flow right. I also wat to personally avoid any name that can be shortened to a nickname - i.e. Jessica - Jess, Arabella - Bell, etc. Personal choices though. Do what's fitting for you and your child that has meaning or a tradition, that way (even if they hate the name) there is a personal story attached rather than "mom and dad were trying to be unique"

This.
I went to high school with a girl named Alivia, pronounced with an Uh sound versus Oh sound. She didn't have any problems (it was pronounced differently, and people figured out easily enough it was spelled differently).
She hung out with mostly boys, which I think affected choice of nicknames, which was A-Liv (only spoken, never written).
I think that this is your baby so you should name it whatever you like! Personally, I have friend with a little girl named Alivia, and a friend with a boy named Andin..
