We live in a very rural area where they don't spray so bugs are bad (not to mention we have woods behind us and a pond). Anyways my whole family uses tea tree oil mixed with water (a little more tea tree oil then water). I put it in a squirt bottle and spray us. If we do get bit, just a small amount of tea tree oil on a cotton ball and swipe the bite takes the itch completely away. We also have a habit of using Grandma's Lye soap during the summer to wash with and it also cuts down on the bug bites.
