I am trying to figure out what to do on July 4th. We usually go to my in-laws for a big cook-out and hang around to watch fireworks. DD is sleep trained and goes to bed @ 8:00. Fireworks begin at sunset (around 8:30). DH thinks it would be okay to keep her up past bedtime so she can see the festivities. I LOVE our sleep routine and am very scared to break it. I am not sure what to do.
Are you keeping your LOs up to see fireworks?
Is it even worth keeping her up to see them? (I just imagine an overtired baby who freaks out at the sights/sounds etc.)
Would the interruption make for a terrible nights sleep? (I have to be @ work the next morning at 7 am.)
Thanks for the input...
Re: Fireworks & DDs bedtime
Well our LO used to be sleep trained but in recent weeks due to illness and summer, staying out later, he has completly switched and now doesnt go down for bed easy anymore and wakes through the night. We're currently working on getting him back on his normal schedule. That being said we are still planning on going to local fireworks, the fireworks start after his normal bedtime and so I plan on letting him drift off in his stroller or on a blanket and he is a sound sleeper so will probably sleep right through them, if he should wake and becomes irritable we already plan on leaving and then he'll fall asleep in the car and then right in the crib when we get home. My feeling is summer is tough with bbq's and even just sitting outside, so beautiful yesterday we were on our porch with our neighboors while the babies played on a blanket before we realized it was 8:15! So we do out best to keep him on a schedule at home when we can and if we're out we try to do the same but know we can't always get it perfect
Great question. I'm not entirely sure what we plan on doing. DS's bedtime is 9, and I'm thinking of trying to keep him up that day an extra hour or two before his nap. We'll be watching them at my aunts house and luckily I can see them from inside if need be (if he's flipping out), and I figure he'll pass out on the ride home. We usually have no problems putting him in his crib from his carseat.
So to answer your question, we will be keeping DS up. We'll see how it goes!
We have the same issue. All of the fireworks shows in our area start at or after 9pm. LO's bed time is 8 and it's entirely too hot here (Phoenix) even at 9pm to let them drift off in a stroller (i.e last night at 10 it was still 102!). We are planning to go one of the stadiums that has a huge outside parking area across the freeway and sit there to watch the fireworks. If anyone is familiar with the Phoenix area, it's the Talking Stick Resort (spring training fields) and parking is on the East side of the Freeway. This way when the kids fall asleep we can put them in their carseats in the AC.
But, DH and I also both took the 5th off just in case the night turns out horribly!
