Durian Fruit?

Has anyone actually ever had a durian fruit??  What does it taste like?  According to the ever knowledgeable Wikipedia they are very pungent but different people have different reactions.  Some think its GREAT while others say it smells like stinky gym socks.

Just curious!

    I'm also 33 weeks today and was wondering what the heck a Durian fruit is.  Couldn't they have thought of something that we all know what it is?

    I was in Singapore a few years ago and it is one of the fruits found there.  It is actually banned from public places (like mass transit/airplanes) because it stinks to high heaven!  After a few days I was finally able to brave trying it and it was terrible - like stinky feet, throw up, all sorts of grossness terrible - and I just had a pureed version of it.  It was all I could do to actually not dry heave at the table.  Yuck!

    However - most of the people who actually live in Singapore love it - so perhaps it's an acquired taste?

    We read a book in middle school that mentioned and nobody knew what it was except for a vietnamese girl in the class so she brought one for all of us to try along with some durian flavored candies and cookies and it did taste pretty terrible.  And the smell was also horrendous.  But she loved it!  So definitely must be an acquired taste.
