Constipation

As someone who's been fairly regular prior to being pregnant, I am NOT a fan of the constipation I now have. I've been eating really well, and drinking lots of water. Here's my question: Does anyone know if there are any type of stool softeners that are safe to take? Or anyone else find relief elsewhere?

I did try some OTC things (Metamucil and Colace were both on my approved list) but dried apricots have worked wonders for me!

  • Ugh, I'm in the same boat!  It sucks!  I think I remember from my last pregnancy that you can take Colace stool softener.  I haven't tried any yet but might have to soon.

  • Ugh. I'm in the same boat as you and I've been taking metamucil since the hpt test. Maybe I'll go with the advice and try colace. It's definitely something I'm going to ask my doctor about next week at my appointment.

  • I feel your pain. I've tried loading my diet w/ extra fiber (lentils, bananas, beets, salad) when I eat carbohydrates. And I'm making a point to drink kefir at least once a day. I *think* it's helping, but, really, things change day to day...

  • Ugh, constipation sucks.  I'm just starting to feel it this time around.  With my DD, I took Colace.  My doctor always pushes Metamucil, but I can't stand the stuff so I drink Benefiber instead (which isn't the same kind of fiber, but I figure at least it's something...).  Some ladies swear by a cup of coffee.

  • Colace, dulcolax, senekot, milk of magnesia should all be ok but you can double check with the doc.

I take fiber tablets daily, so it hasn't become an issue yet.   However, I got hooked on colace after the birth of DD and take it more frequently than I like to admit.
But three things remain: faith, hope and love; the greatest of these is love. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker BabyFruit Ticker

I actually have the opposite problem! Which is no fun either. It's odd because I thought most people were constipated. I've been running to the bathroom since a few days before my BFP Ick!

  • Miralax was on my OK list from the doctor - I used it with my 1st pregnancy too. However, I am not finding that it is working very well this time around - Might have to find something new! All I know is that it has been 4 days and that is WAY to long! Feeling quite uncomfortable right now Embarrassed

That was soooo me for the first couple of weeks. I had diarrhea everytime I ate something more substantial than crackers. But now I feel horribly yucky with constipation. My belly bulges out way more than it should (it's all bloat, not a cute baby bump), the worst gas, and cramps. I'd go back to the diarrhea anyday!!

Thanks for these suggestions, ladies! I will definitely be heading to the store today! :)
