Natural Birth

DFW midwife recommendations?

I think I remember some DFW area CNM recommendations, but I didn't take note. (Flyer23, are you still around?)

Has anyone used or heard anything about UNT Health CNMs?

Thank you!

I saw the midwives at Women's Health Alliance for most of my pregnancy with DS. They deliver out of Baylor University Medical Center (downtown Dallas). Cecily was there during my pregnancy and I loved her. The other midwife I saw (Jane) left, and has been replaced with someone new. No first-hand experience, but given what I know of the practice, I'm sure she's great. And BUMC is a fabulous hospital for natural birth.

The UNT Health CNMs are over on the Ft. Worth side. I've heard really good things. Lindsay Kragle used to be with WHA (unfortunately, she left right before I started going there) and everyone loved loved LOVED her. I think they deliver out of Harris Methodist, which is also supposed to be a great hospital.

There are also some CNMs who do home/birth center birth. Dinah Waranch (Lovers Lane Birth Center, I think she also does HBs), and Birth & Women's Center. I've heard very mixed things about both of these options and didn't seriously consider them myself, but if you need a CNM and want an out-of-hospital birth, they're worth looking into.

Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)

Thank you! I should have mentioned that I am looking for a hospital based practice. Maybe after a successful VBAC I will feel more comfortable out of hospital though =)

    Nice!

I looked at the WHA website, and it looks like there is only one midwife- I will have to call and see if there are more/what my chances would be of only seeing MWs.

I've heard really good things about the UNT MWs too, but I'm a Baylor RN and wanted to stay with Baylor. But... a good experience is more important than that.

    Thank you!

The second biggest reason I pick them is the birth center is walking distant from the hospital(which is baylor all saints by the way) I delivered my daughter at. If anything goes wrong you couldn't be closer to a hospital without having the in hospital experience. Not that I am trying to change your mind from what your looking for. I think the group you asked about is good and possible great for you. I just know for me I have to be out of the hospital setting if I am going to get my natural birth I crave.

Ah yes, the other midwife must've left. If you're a MW patient, you only see MW's -- well, you're required to do one prenatal visit with an OB, but that's just a formality. And unless there are extenuating circumstances, you'd have a MW attending your birth. One of my friends was with WHA after Jane's departure, when Cecily was the only MW on staff, and she was reassured that Cecily would most likely deliver her baby (and she did!)

BUT I don't think the MWs do VBACs SadSadSad You could call and ask, though, since I'm obviously not up-to-date on all the latest with what's going on there!

  • Also, do you have a doula? A good one will help you find a provider who is a good fit for you. I can recommend mine -- she rocks.

Or, ask this question on DFW Area Moms: https://www.dfwareamoms.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=24

My doula is on there and will likely answer Wink And if she doesn't, there are lots of other women who are very familiar with the options in this area. Be sure to specify that you're trying for a VBAC, as that does change things...

I'm umm... not actually pregnant yet. Or really trying yet. LOL. Just wanting to get everything in order before that time comes.

I would love a doula rec though! We will definitely want one this time around. Thanks!

  • I adore Heather Caudell at obgyn associates of lewisville. The office is in the Lewisville Medical Center, a great hospital to give birth. The practice is 8 obgyns and her. She does not do the on call rotation, so it will be her at my delivery. But, if a problem arises, there are great OBs there. I see her for my annual and for my first LO. I can not reccomended her enough.
    I make cute babies.
