Just wondering how old your LO was when you made the switch to wcm? Exactly 12 mos., slightly before?,etc? Also, did you mix with BM or formula or just go straight to WCM? TIA.
I'm glad you posted this. I am curious what others are doing. I am starting to wean now (down to 2 pumps a day). I have a pretty decent freezer stash so I am hoping that will get me pretty close to 12 months. The pedi already told us that if I run out of breastmilk before Kendall hits a year it is fine for us to start on wcm. She said it is more of a lack of iron issue than an allergy one. We have not talked about if we are going to milk or just introduce a little at a time. I've heard of some people starting with just a few oz in a sippy cup while still giving them bm/formula in their bottles.
I am going to slowly start mixing WCM to BM at 12 months. I think each pedi is different, but I believe ours said no more than 10 oz of WCM per day for the first month, then slowly she'll have us increase it. I'll double check with her at the appointment, though- I could have the amount wrong.
We just went for it with DS 1. Take away bottles, add WCM sippy at right around 12 months. Mixing and changing gradually just makes it harder for you. Why would you mix it into a bottle? They know something is changing anyway...it's not sneaky. DS never cared one bit or even cried for a bottle. It was easy.
I plan to start offering WCM with meals next week. When I'm ready to wean this summer, I will start replacing a nursing session with WCM/solids, one session at a time.
We started a few weeks ago with wcm in a sippy at meals. She loves it. She is weaning herself off of bottles. We are down to 1 sometimes 2 a day. I posted about only 1 bottle yesterday.
Our pedi gave us the green light to give a little WCM in a sippy at meal time yesterday. Canadian Paediatric Society recommends starting with small amounts at 9 months. I have never mixed it with BM, I just give it straight up...2 oz per meal of which he only drinks about an ounce. I still BF 5-6 times a day.

No intentions of being sneaky, just trying to make the transition as smooth as possible. My pedi and other friends pedis recommended doing a blend. I am trying to gather advice from as many experienced ppl as I can since this is my first.
