As long as you are watching them while they are eating it I don't see a problem with it. Paige eats popcorn on her daddy's lap. If I gave her a bowl and shoved her to her room, I'd see a problem with it.

Huh, well, I can see avoiding it until they are 2 or 3 but 5 seems excessive. I love popcorn.
Agree. 5 seems really excessive. I used to give our niece popcorn all the time when she was 4. She never had an issue. In fact, our school sells it at "snack train" to the PreK kiddos.
J has had some white cheddar Smart Popcorn before. He only ate a few pieces & I was right there with him. He did fine, but it isn't something i'd give him as a regular snack.
It gets stuck and because of the texture and size it is almost impossible to heimlich it out. My triplets have not been given popcorn and I am hoping to wait until they are 6. I have read too many sad stories...with their parents right there not being able to do anything but watch...no thanks.

I love popcorn too, but I too get all gaggy on it afterwards. The little hard parts always seem to get stuck in my throat. My husband hates popcorn, so I can see him not allowing DD popcorn until she's at least 5.
We aren't big on popcorn either. They had it in children's church Sunday and the teacher let him try it. Needless to say he takes after us. He spit it out

Re: How is popcorn a choking hazard?
Ummmm, I still choke on popcorn.
The little yellow kernel things left on the popped part get stuck in my throat and teeth. Not a big fan of popcorn.
