High-Risk Pregnancy

Bicornuate Uterus Mamas

Hi ladies,

I'm from the December 2012 board.. I just wanted to see how many of us there are. I'm not sure that I'm being considered high-risk, my doctor isn't very concerned with my condition so I didn't know if I should be more worried than he is lol

Re: Bicornuate Uterus Mamas

  • Me, me! I'm from the Nov board, but do check here often and post here a bit as my OB considers uterine anomalies to be high-risk.

  • Interesting.. my doctor is not concerned at all, he said that I may go in to labour a few (3-4) weeks early.. but he has had many patients with the same anomaly.

I'm being transferred to a different doctor in a month or so (from GP to OB) so we'll see if he has a new take on it.

  • My OB is not super concerned either. She said that she considers BCU high-risk because of the chance for pre-term labor/growth restriction/incompetent cervix, but that most of the time these don't end up being an actual issue. She is having me come in every 4 weeks for cervical checks. She said she sees BCU's all the time and feels comfortable continuing to see me (and not sending me to an MFM). But I requested to also be seen by an MFM in addition because, while I trust my OB,  I feel better having two opinions on things...but I'm a worry wort. :)

  • Here are links to some good recent threads from this forum discussing BCU's and the possible issues.

  • I have a Unicornuate Uterus, not a Bicornuate Uterus... but similar issues: higher risk of miscarriage (even in the 2nd trimester), risk of PTL & IUGR.  My OB considers any Mullerian Duct Abnormalities to be High Risk, so I'm being followed both by my regular OB, who I've been seeing every 4 weeks, and a Maternal & Fetal Medicine Specialist (i.e. High Risk OB), who I see every 2 weeks for cervix checks.  So far everything has been fine (knock on wood!) but she's going to continue checking me every 2 weeks for signs of PTL.
