Pregnant after IF

OB Vent and Fibroid Question

Hi Ladies.  I am still in shock that I can post over here.  I am 10 weeks along and feel great.  Had my first OB appointment and LOVED her.  Then, went on a local message board and learned that she is pregnant with twins.  She isn't showing yet.  This means I have to find a new OB right?  It's so disappointing.  If she isn't showing yet, that means our deliveries are likely to be close together and she won't be the person with me in the home stretch.

The other news I got at the appointment was that I have a 3cm fibroid in the back of my uterus.  The baby's CRL is only 3.41 cm!  They will watch it but they said that if it grows, which it is likely to do, it may prevent my cervix from fully dilating later on in the pregnancy.  I looked up fibroids in pregnancy on Dr. Google and am now a bit worried. Is anyone else watching a fibroid carefully?

Re: OB Vent and Fibroid Question

  • I would ask your OB at your next appt. if she'll be the one delivering you. If she mentions her PG and says she may not be delivering you, then you can make a decision about switching if you're not OK with another OB in the practice delivering you.

I have a 2cm fibroid that they found around 11w. It hasn't grown much and is at the top of my uterus. Hopefully yours won't grow much and if it does, it won't cause any issues. A lot of PG women have fibroids, often more than one, and do just fine. Look at it this way - if their main concern is that you may wind up needing a c-section b/c of it, it's not ideal but it's far from the worst thing that could happen, right?

Don't fret too much about the baby's CRL at this point. It's hard to get an accurate measurement when the baby is that small so it's not unusual for them to be off. At this point a few tenths of a cm can make a big difference and it's easy to get that measurement wrong.

Hang in there, Sweetie and stay away from Dr. Google - the worst case scenarios are always the first to pop up!

  • Step away from google! There are so many different types of fibroids.  I was told I have one too (although mine is only 2 cm and isn't seem to be growing more).  The first thing I did was google and oh my the scary information that is out there!!! oy Talk to your doctor about the type of fibroid you have and what complications it could cause and what complications are actually likely to occur.  Mine is completely normal and shouldn't cause me any complications other than it may cause me a little extra discomfort as the baby grows.

Also - are there other doctors in the practice that you like?  Because even if you see just her throughout your pregnancy, it doesn't mean she'll be with you in the delivery room.  THere are two doctors in my practice that I like so I try to see them both (I've had some complications so I've been there every 2 weeks or more often since 13w).
