this idea does not seem right to me for some reason. i have seen people create a first birthday registry at toys r us for their child. it actually is a good idea so that people don't get duplicates etc but doesn't feel right for me.
i am one of those who does plan to have a huge, blowout over-the-top unnecessary party for my daughter but i don't think it sits right w/ me to do a registry.
thoughts?
Re: 1st birthday registry
I find them beyond tacky and gift grabby.
I do have a wishlist for both kids on amazon and it is kept private but its just a list of stuff that I would like to get the kids.
Tacky tacky tacky!
I would refuse to go to a birthday party if there was a registry. How gift hungry!

My family does it for Christmas and I find it helpful. I love knowing I'm buying the right size clothes for my niece and nephews!
P.S. Mrs T2008, did you see my post to you? It's a few threads down.

I agree...tacky.
It reminds me kind of a topic on a different board yesterday. The mom wanted to do "Save the Dates" for her 3 year old's birthday party...then of course regular invites to follow.
I'm still keeping up with my Amazon Baby Registry. If we find a toy or product we like I add it to the registry. If someone specifically asked what DS wanted/needed I might send them the link---but that's as far as it's going.
I think children's birthday parties get way out of hand (maybe I should save that for UO?). I have no problems with going all out as the parents. But when you expect things of your guests it gets too much.
agreed!
We have a "wishlist" on amazon for DS too. The wishlist works well for our family. They all know that DH and I have one that we share and that DS has one now. No one in my family likes the "what do you want for your birthday/Christmas?" game, instead we keep a running list and update it from time to time and anyone with the link can see it and shop from it.

I have an Amazon wishlist I am constantly adding to and updating. I think it's good to have, for myself, and in case my mom ever asks what to get for Evan.
If you have a registry and use it like that, great, or you share it with your parents or people who are at a loss what to get for your LO... But to include it on a birthday invite is tacky.
Not as tacky as throwing your own baby shower and asking strictly for gift cards though, like I read on the baby shower board once.

This!
I really don't understand what the world is coming to.
I do keep wishlists on Amazon that I give to family around birthdays and holidays. IF they ask. Mostly, though, my wishlists serve as reminders to myself.

Maybe there was more to this post, but this doesn't strike me as that crazy. I've already told my family what weekend we are looking at for E's first bday party. I think with the time of year our LOs were born, you have to plan ahead. I won't send formal 'Save the date' via mail, but I did send a save the date email to my family!
