Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Standing in crib...

On Monday my LO learned how to stand up in his crib.  Now I can't get him to go to sleep on his own!  He was doing so well putting himself to sleep and now it's all out the window.  He immediately stands up and cries when I put him down.  I don't think he knows how to sit yet.  The only way I have gotten him to sleep since are to either go for a walk or nurse him to sleep.  Is there anything I can do??  Or do I just have to wait it out until standing is no longer exciting?

Re: Standing in crib...

  • I just let DS figure out how to sit back down. If you go in and lay them back down, it becomes a game to them.

  • Yeah, I tried laying him back down and he got so mad!  And then just stood back up again anyway.  I let him cry for about 15 min yesterday...not sure if I can take much more than that!  It's going to be a looooong week :)

  • Its hard to deal with the crying but it will stop.  LO is just learing they can do all these new things and are pushing the boundaries.  This is also typically a time of sleep regretion, it wont last long.  I promise!

  • Try putting on a sleep sack. That way he won't be able to get up so easily.

    It worked for my daughter.

  • If DS isn't super tired when I put him down for his nap(s) he will stand right back up and cry -  you pretty much just need to leave the room. They learn that it's naptime and they just need to lie down and go to sleep. Turn on your video monitor on and check on him and i bet he will learn to just lie down and go to sleep.

FWIW I was never a fan of CIO but sometimes it's really just what they need to learn. Did the same thing with sleep regression at 9/10 months.

  • Mine was the same way when she learned. I nurse her down usually so I would do my normal routine but if she stands up when I leave I go back in, don't say a word or even make eye contact. I kiss her on the forehead, lay her down and pull the little music giraffe on her door then leave. She usually cries a bit but 99% I only have to do it once and she goes to sleep.
You will never know how much you mean to me my little jelly Bean.
