Hi Ladies,
I'd love your opinion on the name Otto. I love it: I think it's similar to Leo and Milo and other -o names that are gaining popularity right now, but I'm afraid that it's still a little bit too "out there." I know I'm not supposed to care what others think, but I just don't want my little guy to be made fun of down the road because I chose a name that was completely off the radar. So let me know what your initial thoughts are!
Thanks!
Re: Otto: Weird or Cool?
I know it's gaining in popularity (I know 2 Otto's IRL) but I think it's weird and not cool. Now maybe it's me that's not cool, that is certainly possible.
It does kinda seem like a hipster name.
LOVE IT.
But I'm from a big, loud German family and have an uncle and cousin named Otto!
I dated a guy named Otto. It was a family name. I believe he was the third. Anyway, he went by his middle name.
Personally, I wouldn't use it. But it has an old world charm about it. I think it's an older German name.
I absolutely love two-syllable names ending in o (Leo, Milo, and Arlo are all on my short-list) but I have trouble with Otto because it makes me think of the bumbling German ranch-owner from Malcolm in the Middle.
That's obviously a dated pop-culture association that nobody in your kiddo's generation would get though.
It's okay. I wouldn't use it myself but I don't hate it.
It reminds me of Sons of Anarchy.

Lost baby #2 at nearly 12 weeks (D&C on 9/19/14)
Me too, I can hear him say, "Hi, my name is Otto, I like to get blotto."
It always reminds me of a story we read in elementary school -- I think it was called Hannah Is A Palindrome. (Otto is as well, of course.)
I think it's cute and would totally suit the right little boy.

First thing that popped in my head was Otto Mann
Yep this.
If this name reflected the baby's ethnicity I would think it was cool. If it is just a random name you like I'd probably think weird.
There were twins in the waiting room of the ped's office who were named Oscar and Otto. I thought it was nice and underused; however, too matchy for me.
I like it.
I'm hearing it more, too ? there's a little Otto in my neighborhood and a friend from college has a newborn Otto.

Cool. Awesome, in fact. It has a lot going for it.
It's a palindrome. It's easy to say and spell. It starts with an O (I love O names) and it exists in different languages.
