Running/pain question

I did the first Couch 2 5k workout this evening.  I noticed as I was running (which in this early stage is only 6 minutes of the 25 minute workout) that I was feeling period like cramps.  3 hours later I'm still feeling sore when walking around the house. Is this simply my muscles protesting because I haven't used them that way in a while or is something wrong?  Anyone else running and experiencing this?

Re: Running/pain question

  • I'm not a big runner. But I am an active outdoor person and my weekends tend to be the most active, because I have DH around to help with the girls. So I notice on those days when I am doing more physical labour I get the same.

  • I have not started back to running but went on a long walk yesterday and had cramping and a little spotting. I am BF and have not started my period pp yet so I am certain it's not my period.

That pain is reLly common when you start running. It'll go away as your body gets stronger. Make sure you're hydrated before the run starts. Stick to the c25k plan and don't try to pick up the pace too much. The first 2-3 weeks are the worst, then it'll feel much better!

  • It probably means that you are doing too much... Listen to your body. If it protests to the exercise it means you have to scale back. Unfortunately, your body may be telling you that it isn't ready to run yet.

I am an avid runner... One thing that my doctor told me and that I noticed is when I run that I can feel everything move around in me more. Its a strange feeling but its because everything is still not completely healed and loose inside of me. I had to scale it back and I had a 10k planned in a month... Probably not going to happen. I will probably end up run/walking it.

Yeah, I think that's the part that was making me worry.  It kind of felt like my uterus was going to fall out.  I'm sure my hip flexors and lower abs weren't happy either.  I felt much better yesterday, so am trying day 2 of the program today... We'll see how it goes.

Doing a 10k at any pace sounds pretty impressive right now.. so GL.  I'll be happy if I get up to 10k by October.
