Babies: 3 - 6 Months

babysitter $

I know this question is subjective but I thought I would ask anyway.  Backstory: I work for a school so I have my summers off, mostly.  School starts back up at the beginning of September so I have daycare arranged to begin then.  However, I have a summer camp I am doing for one week in July but I didn't want to start daycare because I would have had to pay for all of July and all of August when I would only be sending her that one week.  My friend, who is a stay at home mom, offered to watch LO for that week.

Here's my question:  She never mentioned payment however I want to offer something but I have no idea how much.  I don't want to offend her in case she was expecting me to pay her.  I would be dropping my LO off at her house on my way to work.  She has 2 LO's of her own that would be home.  I am sending all DD's bottles and diapers of course, so she doesn't have to provide anything.  Do you ladies have any suggestions?

Re: babysitter $

  • How much are you paying per month for your DD daycare?  I would suggest figuring out what the weekly rate would be and offering that to your friend.  I dont know what the average weekly rate is in your state, but in mine it ranges anywhere from $150 to $450 per week depending on the type of daycare facility.  Since you will be providing her bottles, diapers, etc., I would think on the lower end of the range would be appropriate.  So for my state, I would say $150 for the week.

    Hope that helps.

  • I would offer to pay $60. My neighbor watches ouf DS 1-2 days  a week (if that) and she wont accept ANY money from us. So we just buy her gift cards and or flowers.

  • I would pay what you would for 1 week at daycare. That's what I have done in the past

  • I would offer to pay her and she will probably decline, but have a $100+ gift card ready for her when the week is over with a thank you card. Make the gift card something that is specific for her (not baby related) and with the card offer to watch her two kids while she enjoys it. Maybe a massage and mani/pedi, I'm sure she would love to go out and pamper herself w/o the babies in tow.
