Stay at Home Moms

Anyone currently in school or planning to go back?

Just curious. DS is our first...and we'd like 2 more. So I still have awhile with this SAHM thing. I like it fine---but don't know if I want to budget for it forever and don't know if boredom will hit once our youngest reaches school age.

If you're in school how are you managing? What are you going for? How difficult is balancing everything?

If you're planning to go back is there a certain age you'd like LO to be when this happens?

  • I'm currently enrolled full time in on line classes. It is definitely overwhelming some weeks. They are 8 week accelerated courses, so I do 2 classes per 8 week period, 4 classes per semester.

It's tough but I'm trying keep my eye on the prize. I should be done in a year and a half.

  • I go full time.  Part on campus, part online.  The first year was super easy, the 3rd semester I was enrolled I was on bed rest for half of the semester and ended up having to finish the whole thing from home, and had dd 3 weeks before finals.  Even that wasn't really bad.  Last semester, my 4th enrolled, was more difficult.  I'm sure part was due to more difficult classes, the other part was due to adjusting to a second child.

I'm going for my Associate's and Paralegal certificate.  I have one year left, and will be returning to work once I'm done.  Really, the school isn't so bad, but you really have to manage your time and when the semester is going I don't get much downtime because in the evening after the kids are in bed, I'm doing homework.  I'm sure if I were going less than full time it wouldn't be nearly as tricky.

  • I finished my first semester in May. I took 3 online classes and one night class on campus. My night class was great, it gave me adult interaction I craved and taking it at night meant more older students like myself. I`m 27 by the way and going to school for Early Education Pre-K-4. It was difficult at times getting work done with my son who is a mama`s boy but I managed to make the Dean`s list. I`m enrolled for next semester which I will be doing online.
No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you. After all, you are the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside.

All of this describes my situation as well.

I have afternoon childcare arrangements (read "grandma") two days a week so that I can devote some time to schoolwork.

  • I did it, but I took my time.

I started school right before I got pregnant with DS.  It took me 4 years, but now I have my teaching certificate and masters in education.  I took one or two classes at a time and it was manageable.

Just do what you can.  If it's too much, cut back on classes.  Look into taking a few courses online too.  Having that option helped me out a lot.

I graduated right before DD was born and want to go back for graduate school.  I don't know when though...
