HYPNOBIRTHING VS.HYPNOBABIES....

Lurker here! Sorry I am sure this has been asked before, so if you can lead me to a link of prior posts that would be great. Otherwise, I hope you don't mind responding again.... I am 18 wks and interested in NB at hospital. I was looking at hypnobabies as there are very few child birth class options in Pittsburgh and I like the concept of hypnobabies. Unfortunately I am having a problem getting a hold of the 1 person who teaches the class...actually, she is not teaching this summer. Someone was getting certified and the site instructs prospect to contact the old teacher to get a hold of the new instructor. I have called and emailed and so far nothing! I am frustrated by this so I just googled Hypnobirthing and it looks like there is a center nearby that teaches hypnobirthing. I will make sure to google the difference btw these two but I am wondering if any of you have had any experience with both and what did you like or not like. Is there a preference? EDIT: Looks like the class is not as closeby as I thought. If I can get a hold of the material would you recommend studying on my own. I am a FTM and I would love to take a class but it looks like that may not be an option. Of course if you are in the area and have other suggestions to the birthing garden or body and birth center that would be awesome. Thanks ladies, I am very grateful for your anticipated responses!

  • check out the link in my siggie for this board's FAQs. i think there is a similar question there.

i teach HypnoBirthing in the DC area, so i can't help you with an in-person class. i assume you have been here: https://www.hypnobirthing.com/pennsylvania.htm

my recommendation is that if you cannot take an in-person class, purchase the Hypnobabies home-study guide and not HypnoBirthing. HypnoBirthing is not meant to be learned on one's own and the materials that you can buy are just a fraction of what you get in the class from your certified practitioner. i think there are many benefits to taking an in-person class, but i realize that is not always possible. it is possible to learn HypnoBirthing on your own, but you aren't getting the full teachings bc most of the program is only available through a practitioner, unlike Hypnobabies, which has a robust home-study course.

if you decide to learn HypnoBirthing on your own, please don't just rely on the book. buy the Rainbow Relaxation CD from the stork mall on the site above. and feel free to reach out to me for support during your studies! Lindsey AT sunflowershealingandwellness DOT com.

    All of this!

May I also add that if you decide to study Hypnobirthing on your own, you might also look into buying the Comfort Zone CD.   I didn't use it a ton while practicing, but listened to it all 17.5 hours I was in labor with DD.  It's basically the Rainbow Relaxation music without the talking.

  • Congratulations on your new baby!

I agree with the others here who encouraged you to use the Hypnobabies Home Study.  To be perfectly honest, I took a HypnoBirthing class as a FTM, and it just wasn't adequate for my needs.  I did a ton of reading on childbirth in addition to taking the class, and I was still unprepared because I hadn't learned much about how to achieve an unmedicated birth.  I prepared with the Hypnobabies Home Study for my second birth, and was really blown away by how much information it included, in addition to all the great self-hypnosis tools.  Until I got Hypnobabies, I had no idea how much I didn't know about birth, even having had a baby already.

Good luck finding the approach that gives you the birth of your dreams!

  • Ditto on using the Hypnobabies home study course. it worked great for us! :)
