Last week I saw my OB and she noted edema without hypertension. I have had trace protein in urine for the past 2 appointments.
I have had swelling in my feet, ankles and calves. Now I am noticing redness around my knees as well as my feet. Is this normal with the summer heat? If I touch the skin, it leaves a white fingerprint like a sunburn would.
I go for another BP check this Friday. Does this sound normal? If not, I will call my OB.
Re: Swelling - is this normal?
So I am no help...but I have this too. I don't know what they've noted in my charts, because my blood pressure has been fine. Definitely have the swollen feet and ankles. I got bad sunburn on my legs Memorial Day weekend which have since healed, but at my dr's appt on Friday he told me my legs looked red (it was really hot and sunny here so I think he thought I was sunburned). I told DH and he agreed they looked red and then proceeded to do the fingerprint on my leg...which turned white just like a sunburn...but they aren't.
Interested to see if anyone else has had experience with it
Yes, this is very normal specially with the heat. I too have been suffering from edema without hypertension since the end of my second tri. There was only one time my BP levels were elevated and they went down by the end of the appt.
I swell from feet to knees just like you described and when you press there will be a white spot and sometimes it will leave an indention. My OB told me the heat and sweating will make I worse and it seriously does. I will wake up in the morning with visible ankles and by the time I walk to my car or get out in the heat they are balloons! The only time I'd call your OB is if the swelling persists and doesn't go down over night.
Kepp your feet up girl, I know it sucks!
Yeah, I've been swollen and no high BP at all. I actually have low BP. Its just your body retaining water and the heat is not helping. The more you drink the less your body will retain, so stay hydrated (water)!

It's apparently NOT normal. I called the on call dr and she sent me to L and D. I was monitored for a few hours and had blood/urine tests done. Only trace protein in sample, so now I am doing the 24 hour test.
OB on call said that she believed I would develop pre-e based on her experience. She took me out of work until Friday when I go to get re-checked. Trust yourself. If you think it might not be right, just call them.
