  • Hits: green pepper, chicken & turkey breast, strawberries, peaches

Misses: Brussels sprouts, carrots, sweet potato

Questions/Comments/Concerns: my husband is still freaking out every time she puts anything into her mouth. He is always poised to jam his hand in her mouth to "help". I wish he would read up on BLW or go in the other room!

mtb, Alex gagged and puked 3 times since we've started, but hasn't done that in a while. Tell your DH that that is how he learns! As long as he coughs, he can breathe. :-)

My DH started freaking out all of a sudden, too, though. Alex had a piece of steak last night and shoved it all in his mouth at once and was kind of moving it around and DH actually couldn't watch it without saying things like "He'll choke and die in a second", so I took it out of his mouth and gave him other things instead. I'll try steak again when DH is not there :-)

Hits: Broccoli! This kid loves broccoli. And eggo waffles. Oh, and watermelon!

Misses: Nothing really this past week!

Questions/Comments/Concerns: I think he is swallowing a lot more of his food these days! There is not nearly as much on his bib or on the floor anymore and his diapers are a lot more colorful! He had a rash on his butt after eating yogurt for the first time, so we will hold off for now and try again in a month or so.

  • We just had pumpkin waffles and banana yogurt this morning.  DS loved it.

Yesterday he had all the vegetables from veggie soup.  He was diggin the flavors.  I've realized we're not introducing one thing at a time.  Yesterday he had zuchinni, onions, celery, green beans and red pepper all for the first time.

Earlier this week we had him with us a restaurant for my birthday.  He tried proscuitto, duck breast, buckwheat polenta and risotto.  He was so well behaved too!  We're definitely doing that again!

BLW is working for us except for the fact that DS is not too interested in getting stuff in his mouth on his own.  His pincer grip hasn't improved much and gets really frustrated when he can't get the food into his mouth.  Oh well, practice makes perfect.

  • We're just starting out so far hits are: toast with hummus (her FAVORITE), plain Greek yogurt (I preload a spoon and let her gnaw on it) and a bit of prime rib. The steak was the best cuz she kept pushing it around her mouth with her tongue, and when it would start to fall out she'd pop it back in with her finger!  So dang cute!!

Misses: nothing really. I've been offering breastmilk in a shot glass during meal times. She still spills most of it but usually can get 1/2 oz down. I still need up dig through our "bar tote" and find our plastic shot glasses so I feel better about letting her do it alone.

??: how will you approach foods YOU don't like? Ex I hate mushrooms, & onions and DH hates condiments (ketchup mustard and BBQ) and we both hate mayo.  We generally don't have any of these things in the house. I want her to try different things but the thought of having to start incorporating them in my cOoking honestly makes me gag!!

  • Hits: Everything. He had normal pancakes before and loved them... so I made "baby" pancakes using baby oatmeal in place of flour and adding some blueberry puree -- he loved it.

Misses: Well, he loves everything. However, the cats have learned he has food. And he flings/drops some. *facepalm* -- So now not only do I have to watch him like a hawk, I have to watch four cats at the same time. Our dog hasn't had the chance, we don't eat around her. At least I don't have to clean as much now?

Next up -- exploring more food, and becoming more regular about offering it to him. Our ped wants us to give him 3 "meals" a day, and snacks now. I'm going to have to branch out. We're giving him some purees -- prunes, pears...to keep him regular. He's such a grump when he doesn't poop. Like today. Grumpy.
