maternity clothes!!

I know I'm only 7 weeks along but my bloating got so bad that it hurt to wear my pants anymore.  I went ahead and bought my first pair of maternity capri pants! Oh my gosh, they might be the most comfortable things I've EVER worn!  I'm so happy I bought them and can't wait to invest in some more lol.  I also had to buy new bras already, I almost instantly went from a 36C to a 36D!  Fun stuff being pregnant huh? lol

Re: maternity clothes!!

  • Capris sound comfy - where did you get them? Motherhood Maternity?

I wish my boobs would grow, lol!

  • I wouldn't spend too much on maternity clothes now.  I realize you need to be comfy but know some might not last through your whole pregnancy and you'll be changing again soon.  I opted for long flowy skirts that had the stretchy type waist and things like that during the early months last time.  Once I started really showing belly I decided it was time to fork out the money on some actual maternity clothes.  I was glad I waited bc I was definitely bigger then when I "thought" I was showing.  I thought I was huge before everyone else thought I was crazy.  Then I really got huge and wow.  Crazy difference.  I do love maternity capris I got from Motherhood though.  I think I got 3 different colors :]

Ideally, you should fit in the same size maternity clothes throughout the entire pregnancy, so no issue with buying them early.

Sometimes true, but not always. & if we are all due in the winter months, I wouldn't stock up on summer clothes bc you'll be dropping a small fortune to buy a whole new woredrobe for the winter when you're at your biggest.

Maybe that's ideal, but it's not my exerience. I started out kind of thin, then I got a small belly, then my legs and belly got huge. By the last month or so my legs were so fat I couldn't fit into any of my pants, and I had worn both medium and large maternity pants. The water weight at the end killed me and I got puffy everywhere. Luckily for me it was summer so I just switched to skirts for a while. A little nervous how it will play out with a winter baby.

  • The belly band is amazing and really stretch out my normal clothes during my first pregnancy.  I am hoping I can go that route again as I won't need summer clothes for long.  Be careful with tops....I bought some early on last time that ended up being short as my belly got bigger and I couldnt wear them b/c you could see the elastic on my pants!!!  I will be buying tops early this time as when winter rolled around everything was black or sikly - normally I am freezing and wear a scarf all year in the office, but I was so hot and sweating all the time...silky tops didnt work so well!
  • I bought a beband early on, but only wore it a couple times. I switched into my summer capris/shorts that had more waist, so the buttoning wasn't as much of an issue. Now, however, I'm growing out of all of those quickly, and desperately want clothes that fit! I bought some second hand, but they probably won't last the entire pregnancy.

I also need new bras... I think I've gone up at least a cup, and my bras now are torture. :P

  • I did the same as you.  At 11 weeks I went and bought a pair of gap maternity jeans.  Loved them.  The only thing was I couldn't wear them after 30 weeks or any of the other low band pants/skirts I bought.  I would say go full panel early as the low panel ones got very uncomfortable.

  • It is not true at all that ideally you remain the same size throughout pregancy.  My thighs and butt spread majorly my first pregnancy once I got bigger.  Even my chest expanded and I went from a 34 B to a 38 D.

Also, by the end of summer you still won't be very huge so buying a ton of maternity summer stuff isn't the smartest.  You'll need  more winter because that is when you'll really be showing.  I'm just trying to get a way with elastic pants and my low waist maternity pants from last time which ended up not working out once I got bigger.  You really need full panel towards the end.

  • Yep, I am aware that i'll be big in the winter, I'll probably end up wearing the pants around the house though.  My husband and I are also planning a pre-baby trip to florida during my first week off from college - or at least for a weekend during the second tri- so I'll be able to wear them then! =]

oh!  I forgot to mention - I got the pants at Target, they were the Liz Lange brand.

I haven't bought maternity clothes yet because I'm not sure how big I'm gonna get.  But I can no longer button up my pants, I wear long shirts so I can leave them unbuttoned or I wear a bellyband.

  • I think the difference this time is I know which clothes last the longest (like full-panel jeans and super-long shirts).  I didn't realize last time how much I'd eventually hate those low rise, demi-panel pants.  I wore them for a while but I'd never buy those again (although... they were nice post-partum).  I'm pretty determined not to gain as much weight this time (I gained 40 lbs last time, which isn't awful but it took forever to lose it).  I hope I don't have to buy much for summer but I'm showing sooner.  I think I can get by in long tank tops (like the long and lean tanks from target) and skirts for a while.  I have a TON of clothes for the cooler months.  I think it's much easier to find non-maternity stuff for summer.

I agree.  Gap maternity pants were my favorite, and I wore them until the very end (and after) my pregnancy.  I found that I also liked to wear long, tunic sweaters/sweater dresses with leggings.  They were great in the fall/winter when I was last really pregnant.  I have found that I didn't really care for the low band pants, unless the band was pretty thick, because they just ended up folding under my belly and making me uncomfortable.  Full panel is better, but the belly band is great for the early weeks.I got the Motherhood brand and loved it.

  • I plan on waiting for maternity clothes, but I am getting some new yoga pants, looser shirts, and a bra this weekend.

Definitely not true for me.  I grew in all sorts of places and didn't fit in my early bought maternity clothes.  I didn't really gain a lot either.  Just two pounds over my DR recommended weight gain.  Luckily I didn't spend a whole lot.  Granted every pregnancy is different, but I wouldn't say "ideally" you should wear the same size throughout.

  • I'm 10w 4d and even though I'm not wearing maternity clothes yet I got my first items today, so excited! There are two pairs of identical pants one brown and one black I'm gonna use as basic pants although they look a little dressy because of the slinky material, but they are the most comfortable pants ever and feel like silk against my legs! Got them second hand and 50% off, they are JW San Francisco. And a basic black long sleeve tunic top that will be essential this winter. And one other top for summer I just couldn't resist because it had sparkly bling around the neck and looked so elegant. I noticed especially in 2nd hand shops it's difficult to find "stylish" maternity wear. Some of it is just so shapeless and unattractive. But I'm just really excited about my purchases even though I won't be wearing them for a while, it's good to be prepared. Come on second trimester, I'm ready for progress!
  • I knew you show earlier/get bloat early on with a second+ pregnancy, but I had no idea at 6 weeks, I'd be struggling to button pants, and already put on weight. (Most likely water weight, as this bloat is nuts)
