"You don't look so good. Are you tired?"....Seriously??

So I was asleep on the couch & LO was in the living room with me. The doorbell rings. I think, "Who in the world could that be?" We weren't expecting any visitors & DH was asleep upstairs. So I answer the door (looking half asleep) & it's MIL & one of DH's distant family members. MIL asks if they can see the baby. I tell them she's asleep, thinking it'll make them leave. Nope. MIL says, "Well we won't pick her up." I say alright & let them in. They look at her for a couple minutes & as they're leaving MIL asks, "Is it alright if I come back by later?" I say yes because I figure later means LATER.

I take LO upstairs since it's cooler up there (her nursery & our bedroom are the only rooms up there). A few minutes later she's crying so I get up & feed her. All of a sudden there's knocking on the door frame - THE DOOR FRAME!!! And guess who it is - MIL. She walks in & asks if DH is asleep. Which the bedroom door is open so it's evident he's asleep. I say yes.

Then she says, "You don't look so good. Are you tired?" I tell her that I was sleeping. And I'm thinking to myself, "I'm the parent of a 3 week old - what do you think?" She's all like, "Oh I woke you up? You're not mad at me are you?" Holy crap, I tell ya what! She starts talking about I can't even remember what & asks if she can use the computer downstairs. I say yes. I figure if I say no, then who knows how she'd react & she'd probably just stay up there with us. LO finishes eating, I lay her down & I lay back down.

Needless to say I told DH he needs to talk to her about coming over so much. She was also over yesterday, Friday & I think Wednesday or so. She's been over 2 or 3 days a week since LO was born. I feel like I need to stay at my mom's for a month just to balance things out! Lol!!

  • I'd start tiptoeing to the door when I hear the doorbell. Look out the peep hole and if it's her, don't answer and just tiptoe away. When she asks later, say you were asleep :)

  • I wish we had a peep hole! We just have blinds. If you try looking through those, people know! :)
  • After the first week or two of people dropping by and ringing the doorbell (!), I put a sign on the door that says "Shhhh...baby sleeping. Please come back at another time or call (phone number) and leave a message. Thanks!"

    Some people are so inconsiderate!!

Haha I still have this kind of sign on my door and I fully intend on keeping it there until I feel like taking it down. However I do not have our phone numbers on it. If they know it good they can call if not Oh well they can leave us a note in the door. Ohh and the sign is up all the time.

  • Oh man... Sounds similar to my MIL

She needs to call you first... You can tell her that. Just say that it will be easier so she doesn't waste her time driving over. That way you can scan the calls and or make up an excuse to not have her come over. It has done wonders for me. :)
