Re: 1st Tri Check In

  • How are you feeling this week? Any updates?

I'm feeling pretty good. I made it to 9 weeks!! So my confidence in this pregnancy are pretty high right now. My update is that I  was supposed to have my first midwife appt today, meet and greet, general info with your spouse... work just called me in. And it was my fault that I didn't communicate with my work clearly enough. So my DH is going to the appt by himself, what a trooper!!

QOTW: What made you choose your OB or midwife? What about them do you like and dislike?

I personally choose a midwife. In Ontario midwives are covered by our Ontario Health plan. I watched my sister and many of my friends use the midwives and I just loved the principles that they stand for. And they are all women. I like the fact that they are all women, their office is 5 minute walk from my house. Dislike, well I haven't actually met them so I don't know yet lol

  • I'm feeling pretty good this week. I have Zofran to use as needed to manage the nausea and I'm off from work (I'm a teacher) so I've been able to rest as needed. I went to an appointment yesterday and had an ultrasound. The babies look good and they have nice strong heartbeats so I'm happy about that.

By the way can you add twins to my name?  thanks.

I chose my ob because he's a high risk perinatologist. According to just about every one of his patients, he is a miracle worker and will give me the best chance at taking home my babies this time. My Dh and I met him for a prenatal appt in Feb after my loss and he spent 3 hours with us, explaining what went wrong last time (even though I was supposedly at one of the best hospitals in the country), how he would have handled it if he was our ob at the time, and what my chances are for a full term pregnancy with each type of cerclage, etc.  He has an amazing bedside manner, he is extremely caring and compassionate, and he is super smart. I also loved that he gave me ALL of the cerclage options (including the TAC). What turned me off from my last ob is that she told me having twins again is like "playing with fire" and that "a TAC is a last resort, after you have another loss." Well with fertility treatments, twins are (obviously) possible so I needed an ob who felt comfortable with me having twins again. Also, why I would wait for another loss to get the TAC is beyond me! I will do anything to keep these babies safe.

How are you feeling this week? Any updates?

I've been feeling pretty good except for the fact that I broke my left foot last week.  Finally not in pain anymore - just more of a frustration I guess.  I got my first few bouts of morning sickness this weekend but otherwise just counting down the days to my ultrasound Friday.

QOTW: What made you choose your OB or midwife? What about them do you like and dislike?

My OB is one of the only high-risk OBs in the area.  I actually went to him about 2 yrs ago for a consult knowing I had a septum in my uterus and that my regular gyno was unwilling to do anything about it.  I can credit uncovering all the IF crazy to him, otherwise I would probably still be beating my head against a wall.  He referred me out of town to a RE and as soon as I graduate I'm headed to him.  I can't wait to go back as a pregnant person to his office this time!  He has a great bedside manner and makes my DH feel at ease which is huge for me.  If DH doesn't connect with a doctor forget it!

  • Please add me!  lovekatespade, tentatively due March 1, 2013

I feel fine, just tired.  But I had a cold this weekend, so I think its just leftover from that.

Q: I chose my ob because she was highly reccommended by my RE, who I love and trust.  I haven't seen her since my positive beta, but I will once I get released from the RE.  Prior to meeting her a few months ago, my PCP just did my annual exams.

Got to see the heart flick today and what an amazing feeling. Other then having a cold I am feeling fine w/no morning sickness.

Going to call my gyn next week to schedule my first prenatal appt.

  • How are you feeling this week? Any updates?  I am still tired, but otherwise doing great.  I was prescribed Zofran yesterday after throwing up 20+ times in just a few days and not keeping any real food down.  I was so weak, but now that I am keeping some food down I feel a lot better.

QOTW: What made you choose your OB or midwife? What about them do you like and dislike?  Honestly, I never even considered a midwife.  They are not very common in my area and I don't know anyone at all who has used one.  Yesterday was the first time I met my OB so I am reserving judgement until I know them a little more!

How are you feeling this week? Any updates?

Eh...trying to be more positive, but still VERY tired and nauseous.  Also sad that my skin is breaking out like crazy.  I actually got up and went to the gym today though, so I'm feeling a little better about myself!  And my first u/s is tomorrow!

QOTW: What made you choose your OB or midwife? What about them do you like and dislike?

I haven't even really thought about OB vs. midwife yet.  I switched to a new OB practice and went ONCE for a consult before heading to the RE, so I don't know them at all yet.  People rave about the practice, with the exception of one doc, who happens to be the one I saw, so I don't have anything positive to say yet!  Hopefully I will graduate in 2 weeks and love them!

How are you feeling this week? Any updates?

Feeling better now that I'm using Unisom+B6; the nausea and vomiting were pretty bad last week.  Mornings are still iffy, but better than before.

I had my second u/s last Friday at 8w4d, HB of 183.  All was good, so they've started to wean me off the meds, and I have my graduation appt with the RE tomorrow!

QOTW: What made you choose your OB or midwife? What about them do you like and dislike?

I loved my old OB, whom I'd been seeing for 10 years (and my MIL, who I LOVE, is the office manager of that OB's practice), but she is just too far away from my current house and work.  So I've chosen a combined OB/Midwife practice sourced out of the hospital I want that got good reviews on Kudzu, and whom my RE respects.  My first appt is next week, so we'll see how it goes.

  • How are you feeling this week? Any updates?  Still feeling pretty good.

QOTW: What made you choose your OB or midwife? What about them do you like and dislike?  Going with an OB.  She has been my OB for a few years now so she knows me; she also is the one who referred me to my RE.  Dislike would I am not guaranteed that she will be the one to deliver it may one of the other 3 doctors in her group.

  • How are you feeling this week? Any updates?Im defiantly starting to feel something in there! A bit more sloshy? For lack of a better description. 12w OB visit is next Tuesday, so providing all looks good, we will announce to family and friends (but not FB).  QOTW: What made you choose your OB or midwife? What about them do you like and dislike? We chose an OB. I like the practice and my doc came highly recommended by three different sources. I don't like that the practice is super large and the on call doc delivers.

  • This will be my last check in with 1st Tri... D@mn that feels good to say!!! Hitting 13 weeks this Friday, and by next week I'll offically be in 2nd tri. Its been a long crazy and scary road so far- but the RE was right when he said this was going to be it because the embryo was such a rock star- it truly is SO resiliant! :)

I wanted to do the midwives at my OB's office, however the insurance coverage was terrible for a midwife so I had to get the doctors (which are great also!) My mother in law, sister in law's and several friends delivered there babies through this office so felt like it was only right to go there since they had such wonderful expereiences!! :)
