how to tame baby girls' hair

my DD's hair is long enough now to get in her eyes.  I'm afraid to use the small clips because she can get them off and choke on them.  Bigger clips and bows are ok for special occasions but around the house will annoy her and she tries to remove them anyway.  I'm afraid to use adult hair products to tame her hair because of chemicals and getting that greasy look.  Are there any alternatives to cutting it?  I can't see her sitting still for a haircut anyway.  help!

  • Have you tried headbands? My LO's hair is just now getting longer in the front only, and I'll either put the front in a little ponytail or just throw a headband on her.

  • I have a few from when she was smaller, now they are too tight.  I'll look for some bigger ones.  It's not long enough to make a pony tail and pig tails she will probably pull out.

  • No answer here - just a show of support.  DD hair is WILD!  My mother swears it is payback for all the times I complained about the way she fixed my hair.  :)
  • Well, I have this problem with my baby as well... only thing is that he is a BOY! So there's not much I can do but wait until he gets his first haircut. I really love how his hair is long and curly though, so I really don't want to cut it and putting things on him to pull it back is a big no-no with his daddy. =/

  • I guess the only thing you can do for a boy is get it cut.  I'm very nervous about the first haircut.  I know it'll go over like a fart in church with my DD, just as tooth brushing, face cleaning and feeding go each day.  I wish her hair was curly, that would give it some lift off her face.

  • H hair isn't over her eyes but I manage to pull hair together for pig tails ;) I distract her and he forgets she has them in. Maybe try that? Do her hair and then distract her ;)
