Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What are you feeding LO?

We are still strictly on baby food.

What are you giving your LO?  DD hates puffs and cheerios...I think it's a texture thing.  I have tried every single puff out there!  She threw up on bananas couple of months ago repeatedly about an hr after feeding.  So, we're intolerant to bananas.  Also, she is on neonate formula for her dairy allergy.  We will challenge the dairy allergy when she is one.

She just spits cheerios or puffs right out! She then shivers.  Ha!

Also....she cannot stand the sippy cup.  What in the world?  I've tried every kind.  Should I just pick one and stick to it?  Or keep trying several different ones?  Should I put formula in the sippy?

DD has been a high maintenance peanut since day numero uno... :)

Re: What are you feeding LO?

  • My DD is high maintenance too :)  DD never took a sippy.  She does, however, like the straw cup.  We use  https://www.amazon.com/ZoLi-Bot-Straw-Sippy-Blue/dp/B005NJSMHG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1340752016&sr=8-5&keywords=zoli+straw+cup.

My DD also never liked baby food until recently - strange I know.  So, at 9 months, we were feeding her small pieces of pretty much everything but she wasn't eating much.  She really didn't eat much until about 10 months when 1 day, out of the blue, she just started eating more.

You could try hummus (my DD loves it).  I put it on pita bread and she pretty much sucks the hummus off.  Peas are good.  Small pieces of steamed broccoli (you can give a whole floret if you watch).  Small pieces of strawberries.  Pieces of raspberries are popular.  DD loves blueberries.  Black beans (out of can, rinse well).  Pieces of deli meat (DD loves turkey).  Pieces of ground beef, chicken, turkey.  Sweet potato fries.  DD loves edamame (I split the beans in half).  PB&J sandwiches cut into small pieces (ok PB with your pedi).  Scrambled eggs.  Noodles with butter (not sure if you're doing butter or not).  Noodles with pesto (you could do pesto w/o cheese).

  • It would be easier for me to say what I am NOT giving DS: nuts, chocolate, honey and WCM (though I plan to start offering WCM at meals next week).

He eats what we eat. I always offer things that he has refused before.

I say keep offering things, she'll catch on.

As for the sippy cup, have you tried a straw cup instead? DS didn't like his sippy so I got a Playtex Lil Grippers (or is it Lil Sippers) straw cup and he took to it right away. You can squeeze the bottom, so as soon as he realized there was water coming up that straw, it only took him a few days to figure out how to drink.

Keep trying, not sure if it's been mentioned above because I'm exhausted and should be in bed instead of bumping, but I have heard it can take LO's up to 20 times of an exposure to warm up to a new food. We are doing a combo of purees and finger foods, here are some big hits around here: egg yolks scrambled with BM or formula, plain whole wheat bread in small pieces, pasta with melted cheese on top (but you have the dairy allergy thing....), any soft fruit (kiwi, grapes, melon, strawberry, peaches etc.) diced up, peas, diced boiled carrot, sweet potato, avocado. Maybe mushy things like fruits and boiled veg that taste like her favorite puree will help bridge the gap and she'll be less likely to gag? As for the sippy cup war, we are still trying to figure that out here, not much luck either.

    GL!!
