I have a step-daughter who is 15. She does not live w/us, but has the typical visitation. Her mom, is currently planning a huge sweet 16 at a wedding venue for her. The thing is we are waiting to announce on her father's birthday and my due date will be around the date of her very important sweet 16! How do we genlty break the news to her? I don't want my pregnancy to over shadow her day! She's a sweet and good kid. It's so odd that my projected due date is the same as her birthday! :-/
Talk about the positive and not the negative. I would not bring up the party unless she does. Unless you are in labor or there is a medical emergency her Dad can get away for a few hours and attend.
Jen - Mom to two December 12 babies
Nathaniel 12/12/06 and Addison 12/12/08
We're having a similar issue with K. I'm due 12/20 and her birthday is 12/17. However since she's only 6 she thinks sharing a birthday with her new brother or sister would be fun. But obviously my husband and I aren't planning a great big party for her 7th birthday because my Drs won't let me go past 38 weeks, so I might deliver anytime the beginning 1/2 of December.
Obviously your SD is quite a bit older then K. As PP said, for right now just focus on the positive aspects of the new baby. Until it gets closer to your due date, you have no way of knowing if you'll be able to attend the party or not. Keep the excitement kigh for her about her party, and just try and keep an open-mind about attending as it gets closer. If you haven't delivered just yet, you can pop in for an hour and then go (because I'm sure you'll be physically uncomfortable at that point). If you have delivered, your husband can go and you can call her and wish her a happy birthday.
The venue is a 20 minute drive. We are taking her cake tasting at the end of summer and letting her design and choose the cake, so that will be fun. I really plan to attend if at all possible.

Do you have to travel to get there?
1. If you have to travel by plane then obviously going isn't even an option.
2. If you are just asking just in case then remember babies don't always show up when they are supposed to! I was over a week late with both of mine.
Don't bring it up at all unless you have to travel by plane.
