Trying to Get Pregnant

Just got off BCP and...

Hello all, I'm new here, but I just finished my last birth control pack and my husband and I are going to start trying soon.

My question is about the emotional issues people may have had after going off the pills. I feel like I am going crazy. I have no appetite, want to sleep all the time, and get really emotional over the smallest things. Did anyone have any of these issues when finishing their pills and did anything help? Right now I am trying to listen to calming music, exercise, and do some yoga.

Any sort of experience saying I'm not alone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ladies and here's hoping for my hormones to stop going nuts very soon!

There are a hundred threads on this topic, so I'm going to guess you aren't alone.

Your body is going through a major hormonal shift right now, so "emotional issues" are pretty much expected. It's kind of like extreme PMS for some, for awhile, but it subsides.

If it makes you feel any better, one of the first things that started happening to me after going off birth control (on it for 11 years) was crazy sex dreams. Lewd, naughty, raunchy, vividly disturbing sex dreams. It's been since the beginning of May and I'm still having sex dreams.

I think it would help the OP if you would kindly describe some of these dreams. Wink

Sex dreams as a side effect!?!! Awesome! Unless they're awful, then No Awesome.

I honestly never had that many before coming off bcp...maybe a couple a year. I've had like 5 in the last month. The first one was fairly disturbing and involved a gang-bang and a hotel hot tub. The most recent one was a set of twins. Not at the same time, but I had my way with both of them. They were both useful in their own way. H got a good laugh out of this.

ETA: I think really it's just my libido coming back, as I am fairly randy most of the time and am constantly thinking about sex and it was rarely that way before. I'm not complaining. It's mildly frustrating at times, and incredibly satisfying at others.

Wowza. Yeah I can definitely see it as your mojo trying to resurface!

  • Hi, and welcome! I'm new here too :)

It's my first cycle off BCP, and I am definitely feeling very emotional. I feel like I'm crying a lot more than is normal for me, especially at silly cheesy stuff on TV. You're not alone!

I think the methods you're using to deal with it sound awesome. Best of luck to you!

So sorry.. but  I found this and I couldn't help it

  • I am on my first cycle off BC and I haven't had any emotional issues but I have had an upset stomach and gas/bloating for weeks now.

  • When I went off them to ttc my first, I got very emotional and felt crazy. Then I got pregnant that same cycle and it was terrible to be honest. The hormones hadn't  stabilized to begin with and then the pregnancy hormones on top of it were kind of nuts. It did even out after a short time though.

I recently went off BCPs again to ttc #2 and I'm feeling the same thing. Lack of appetite, headaches a lot, very emotional and tired. I know it will even out very soon though.

Just explain to YH what is going on (so if you bite his head off he understands) and hang in there. It will even out shortly and you'll feel normal again :)

  • You are most definitely not alone!  I stopped taking BCPs in December and for the first 6 weeks or so, I experienced decreased appetite, bloating, back pain, cramps, headaches, fatigue, irritability, etc. My cycles still haven't regulated, but most of the symptoms I mentioned went away after my first post-BC period. Good luck!

  • When I first went off BC, I went a little nuts.  I can remember eating an ENTIRE box of Oreos in the Target parking lot!  Hang in there- it gets better.

  • Your experience sounds totally normal. I experienced many symptoms when I went off Seasonale after taking it for almost 10 years. For me, the headaches and dizziness were the worst (I was scared to drive sometimes). The headaches, nausea and dizzy spells lasted for a few months while my body adjusted. Good luck and hopefully you'll be feeling better soon!

  • I was off BCP for about a week in February (in between re-filling prescriptions so not TTC related). I was hormonal mess. On Valentine's Day of all days I just sat on the couch and cried for no apparent reason and my husband just looked at me like "wtf??" We didn't even realize it was the BCP until a few days later.

We are finishing up my last pack of BCP and starting TTC in August. At least this time around when I act like a nutcase we'll know why... Smile
