CD Trial question

Hey Ladies,

So I have finally got the extra money together to try the Jillian's Drawers CD trial. And I had a few questions for those who have done it as well - or for any of you CD experts.

So she has the different diapers in there to try out, but what else do I need? Is that all you need to CD, dont you need like special rash cream or laundry soap or that bag thing?
Basically Im wondering if I just order the trail thing is that all I need or do I have to get more things to start. I looked on the FAQ but I didnt see anything specific.

Thanks in advance :)

Re: CD Trial question

  • Wet bag and laundry soap. Dryer balls if you plan on using your dryer. If you are using cloth wipes you will need to add those also.

Any particular laundry soap? Ana is a bit sensitive and breaks out with everything so I juse Tide Free and Clear, is that OK?
And silly question, what is a dryer ball?
Do you have to use cloth wipes?

I HATE Tide. For sensitive skin Tiny Bubbles has worked the best (for us anyways)

A dryer ball helps stuff dry faster. You can put drops of esential oils on it and it basically acts as a dryer sheet except it wont make it repel like fabric softener will.

No you dont have to use cloth wipes but if you do decide to I recommend the grovia ones :) Crow mountain wipe bits smell wonderful also ;)

Liquid or powder? I see that Tiny Bubbles one is power, does that matter?
And I dont use dryer sheets. So the only reason you use a dryer ball is to make something dry faster? Is that necessary?
    And thanks!

  • Yes Tiny Bubbles is powder. I do not know much about Tide but its recommended to only use the original Tide. I tried it once and it left DD with a nasty rash.

Dryer balls are not needed really but AIOs take a long time to dry.

Robynlynn is the go to Jedi on CDing so I would shoot her a PM.

  • You can use pretty much any Free & Clear laundry detergent and it will probably work just fine, but it may void your diaper warranty so for a diaper trial you may need to use a CD-approved detergent. We've used both Tide Free & Clear and Seventh Generation with our cloth diapers and it's worked well (both DS & I have super sensitive skin.)

Most rash creams mess with the absorbency of cloth diapers, but as a plus most babies don't get rashy with CDs. I think California Baby rash cream is ok to use and easy to get. We use CJ's BUTTer and love it.

You can use a wetbag but you don't HAVE to; same with dryer balls, although they shorten drying time and make things less wrinkly/static-y. You can get the plastic dryer balls at Walmart or Target, or get wool dryer balls online. They both work but wool ones are more natural.

CDs are fun - hope you find some you & LO like :)

  • In terms of rash creams, we love the GroVia Magic Stick.  It's not messy, you can apply it with one hand and it's all natural.  Have fun with the trial!!

  • We use regular powdered Tide Ultra, works great! For diaper creams you can get the CA Baby stuff at Target or check out CJ's BUTTer- a lot of online places sell it.

I just got started, too! :-)

Check out this group for used CD, wetbags, dryer balls etc.: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ClothDiaperSwap/

You don't need dryer balls. You can just throw in a towel or pillow case instead and it helps to dry stuff faster just as well.

I use powdered Tide and have no problems yet.

I have 2 wetbags. You could also use a pillow case in a pail instead, but that's not waterproof. I like that I can take the wetbag with me if I need to and that I will be able to use it for other stuff when we are done with diapers.

Following the tips of a few ladies here, I bought some fleece and cut my own fleece liners. If I need to use diaper rash cream, I'll just stick that between baby and diaper to protect the diaper. That way I can use all the creams I have already. It was cheap, too!

There's a website called PinStripes and PolkaDots that has a lot of answers.  She rates the best laundry detergents for CDs (you're looking for something without enzymes, brighteners, scents or dyes) here:

    https://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/detergentchoicesataglancepspd.htm

    and diaper rash creams here:

I would definitely get a wet bag or two, and a diaper sprayer to hose off the poo.  We have the mini shower (~$45) and it's been worth every penny.

  • Even if you don't use gdiapers their website is very informative. We use wet bags. The wet bags can be washed in warm but not hot, otherwise they will lose their waterproof.

Ive used Rockin Green and currently use dropps for detergent. I buy it off diapers.com. I don't use dryer balls or dryer sheets, I don't have a problem with drying time.

For wipes, I use seventh generation free and clear. I also order from diapers.com.

The only time she had a diaper rash was when she first went on Zantac. I use California Baby Calendula cream. I just put a liner in the diaper to protect the cloth.

  • Country Save is an inexpensive detergent for CDs. I bought the 40 load box and still have 1/3 of it left after 6 months of CDing. I also occasionally mix in a little Tide original powder to make them smell fresh and to help with any staining. From my understanding, you are not supposed to use any liquid detergent on CDs. I think it has something to do with the additives.

Fleece liners are a life saver! They will help keep the diaper cream off the diapers so that you don't have staining or repelling issues.
