a little concerned

I had my first doctor's appointment today thinking I was in my 6th week of pregnancy. Upon getting the ultrasound, the ultrasound tech asked me if I was right on the dates of my cycle because the sack was measuring 5 weeks and 5 days. I could see the sack, but nothing that resembled a blob, peanut, or anything that resembled the shape I had seen with my first two children. I understand not seeing a heartbeat yet, but literally all I could see was a sack. Has anyone one else run into this situation?

Yup! I went into the doctor when according to LMP, I should have been almost 7 weeks. When I had the u/s, I only measured about 5w2d. Doctor assumed I ovulated late and wanted to see me back in a couple weeks so he could recheck. When I saw the 5w2d, it was literally just the sack. There was something the doctor said could have been the beginnings of the fetal pole, but he wasn't guaranteeing it because it was just too tiny to be able to really tell. Schedule another u/s with the doctor for a few weeks and see if there is any growth...try not to stress too much in the meantime (I know, easier said than done).

Thank you! That makes me feel a little better. They are checking my blood levels and want me in on Friday to check blood levels again, then the next Friday for another u/s. Thanks for your response!

My friend went in when she was 6 weeks and all she could see was a sac, no heartbeat. Following week she went in for a follow up and her bean was in there with a strong heartbeat.

Yup, my first u/s was when I was 5w5d and there was a sac but no baby, 2 days later I went back and there it was.

I'm a little confused - if you're in your 6th week, then 5w5d is fine - that's the end of your 6th week. (Kind of like we're in the 21st century now, but the year is 2012) Anyway, only seeing a gestational sac at 5w5d doesn't mean anything is wrong. Have they scheduling a follow-up ultrasound?

I thought I was about in the middle of my 6th week and they are saying that the sack is measuring 5w 5d. They took my blood and are checking my levels and if everything is good I go back Friday for more blood work to make sure my levels are higher. I have another ultrasound appointment set for July 6th...should be 7 weeks by then according to the doctor. Thanks so much for all your responses! It has really made me feel so much better! Smile

I had a horrible time with my 1st because of all of this. I wanted my HCGs done, and they didn't double "perfectly" so they sent for a u/s and it showed a sac. I knew based on charting that I Od late but they were going by LMP which was 5 days off. So I went through a few weeks of hell and testing to find out all was well and my kid is now 2 1/2 years old.

With #2 and #3 I made sure to make my appointments for 8weeks or so, that way give or take a week the u/s would show what it needed to show to both measure my due date and see something that looked like a baby.

So, I'm sure everything is ok! Keep this in mind for future pregnancies ;-) it sure helped me keep cool in those first few weeks!
