Adoption

Update! (Long, sorry!)

I figured I owed an update around here, it's been a little while since I had a new post.

Well, I had a huge visit with Mckenzie in mid May.  It included about 35 people, her adoptive grandparents, aunts & uncles, etc., and my grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins. We had a picnic at a local park and rented a pavilion and I cooked for everyone. Most of my extended family hasn't seen Mckenzie since birth so this was their first opportunity to meet her.

It was pretty stressful on me, even though I'm very open with my extended family and talk about Kenzie frequently, it still makes some of them feel uncomfortable and there's just nothing I can do about it.  The visit did help with this, I believe. A lot of my family opened up and seemed at ease during the visit.  I think they were expecting me to be in tears or be upset/emotional about seeing her.. They really misinterpreted the atmosphere at our visits.

Mckenzie really took well to everyone although she did feel a little overwhelmed towards the end of the picnic when she asked me if everyone was here to see her.. But she did great and really interacted well and played.  Here's a pic from the visit, (I could barely get her to sit still for a nice picture..lol).

On another note, my husband and I ran into Mckenzie's birthfather in April.. This was our first time talking since I found out I was pregnant (besides the few emails 5 years ago).  It was very weird and he didn't even know who I was.. Once I told him we talked a little bit about her but he didn't seem to care much.. I didn't punch him or scream at him like I thought I would.  I've been wondering when the day would come that I'd run into him somewhere.. It was at a bike race in the next town over.  I left the conversation feeling sad for Mckenzie.  I hope he gets his act together sometime.

Hubby and I are still TTC, he will be getting a SA soon and we will go from there.  But on the bright side we were in a wedding two weeks ago and we both were able to drink and I did the warrior dash last weekend, check it out!  Then later this week and weekend is Creation East - Anyone else going?

  • Sounds like you guys have been having a blast! I'm glad most of your family decided to go to the visit. I remember you had posted a while back that they were being weird about it.

Thanks for the update and good luck on TTC!!

  • Thanks for all your kind words. I've been struggling a bit lately... I started a new job about 6 months ago & I share an office with an amazing, fun, girl. We really hit it off and have become close friends, she's 5 years older but was also pregnant at 18. She decided to parent, her son is 13 now. She also has a 7 year old son. Hearing stories non stop stings a little (she doesn't know about our TTC struggles). I certainly don't regret my decision to place Mckenzie but that doesn't mean it's always easy to live with, especially since we've been unsuccessful TTC over the last 2 years.. I've had a lot of down moments lately... But I'm enjoying summer and trying to stay busy with the mind frame that this might be our last summer child free.
