BRITAX is the best. They are very safe. I have the Britax Marathon. There are a bunch of different models and all of them are good. Britax is a little more expensive, but you can find them on sale all the time. I got mine at a sale on Target.com.
We love DS's Britax Marathon. They're top rated, and a little bit more than some others, but he will be in it until he is 70lbs, and I don't mind spending more on his safety. If you want a good deal check diapers.com. I got ours there for $231.99 plus free shipping!

We LOVE our Evenflo Triumph. The strap system is sooo easy, and the safety ratings are great.
IMO, all car seats have to pass the same safety standards (well, that's fact, not opinion). I didn't want to buy a seat that was double the price just for a few little "extras".

We have the Graco My Ride 65. It's very easy to use and goes up to 65 pounds. It's also easy to take in and out of the car and my LO seems pretty comfy in it.

We also have an Evenflo Triumph we love. DD1 has been using it RFing for over a year. It's easy to install and easy to adjust the harness and straps.
All car seats are equally safe, you just have to find the one that fits the best in your car and meets your needs the best.
