1st Trimester

Side effects of Progesterone? Teeth itching?

I started Progesterone about 3 days ago and not getting many side effects yet (thank goodness) but my front bottom teeth/jaw/gums/chin are really itchy and scratching/rubbing doesn't help.  It's like back when we had braces and due to teeth moving and nerves, there was a ticklish sensation that you could not get rid of.  I wondering if it's due to the progesterone now because I remember having my 1 yr pre-conception dental appt where my dentist mentioned additional possible dental risks when pregnant (like gum disease) since the hormones affect gum tissue very easily.  I'm hoping it wears off, but anyone TTC or in 1st trimester with this experience?

Re: Side effects of Progesterone? Teeth itching?

  • I've been on progesterone on and off for the past several years and have never experienced this.

However, it could just be general pregnancy tooth weirdness.

That.  That could very well be the weirdest side effect from progesterone I've ever heard!  I've taken it up to 14 weeks for each of my previous 2 pregnancies and never had that one.  Tiredness, constipation, occasional spotting, yes.  Itchy teeth?  LOL.  You poor thing.  Smile

  • Well, I am not taking progesterone, buuut... swear my teeth were "itching" the other day. I noticed it when I was eating some oh so delicious Honey Dijon Kettle chips... and when I was chewing, they felt very grainy and itchy...thought I was imagining things!

  • Thanks, gals! Could be my imagination or could just be how my body is handling the hormones.  I might briefly mention it to my doctor and eventually my dentist if it continues....
