Baby Showers

BRU or BBB? Can't decide where to register.

DH and I have an Amazon registry and we are trying to decide between Babies 'R Us and Buy Buy Baby. If you have registered at one of these places, what did you like about them and what did you not care for?

Also, we are thinking about registering at Target, too. Is this too much? I doubt anyone will look at the Amazon registry besides us and maybe a handful of people. We are Amazon Prime members and get free shipping, so we order everything online if we can.

TIA!

  • I love BBB.  I shop there all.the.time.  I love the way the store is laid out.  Everything is so easy to find and they have an awesome selection.  Also, their sales associates are really nice and helpful.  If you have one close, I would choose that over BRU any day of the week.  Just my $.02

  • We registered on Amazon, at Target and at BBB.  BBB is closer to us than BRU, so that was mainly out of convenience, though the people at our BBB were very helpful and friendly.  Target was awful (they somehow changed the last name on my registry to my maiden name, then no one could find our registry when they were looking for it), but we registered there because many people in my family are 2+ hours away from the nearest BBB and are older so they don't do online shopping.

  • I am registerd at BRU & Target.

I too, do not have any BBB near me, I honestly though it was Bed, Bath, & Beyond at first and couldn't find out what someone would put on a registry for a baby shower there!

I personally don't think it's too much as long as whatever you're putting on your register is something you will prob wind up buying if someone else does not.

PRO: I like Target beacuse I think they have a better selection for baby items over Wal-mart for exapmple and they gave me a cool clutch bag when I strated my registry.

CON: I have read about a lot of people who had bad expiriences if they have to return things.

Babies-R-Us I don't have anything bad to say about them for my expirience so far. I get TONS of coupons everytime I go there, they have great sales, and thir online site is easy to use.

I registered at BRU because it was convenient to the majority of my shower guests.  There aren't many BBB in our area at all.

I registered at both BBB and BRU and had good experiences at both.  BRU is more common and has more locations and BBB carries some brands that BRU doesn't and is a slightly nicer store overall.

I've heard terrible things about Target registries though.

    Ditto this poster

BBB is owned by the same company that Bed Bath and Beyond is owned by... the one I have near me has AWESOME customer service, really friendly staff and is super clean, organized and well stocked.

I personally think the BRU is crummy near us... it was all haphazard and disorganized and did not have nearly the selection the BBB had.

    Good luck!

  • Ditto other PP that you should register where it's closer for guests to buy something in store.

I will say that if you live near a BBB, for your own supplying purposes, that those 20% Bed Bath and Beyond coupons also apply to Buybuybaby.

20% off for electric pump> 10% standard registry completion.

  • I would recommend taking a close look at the items you're planning to register for at both stores and then deciding.  I chose bbb because of how nicely their store is laid out and how helpful their associates are.  However, I then noticed that the prices are better at bru (generally 10% to 20% cheaper for the same exact item).  I also noticed that patterns on items were different between the two stores - Items such as the fp space saver high chair, boppy covers, pnp, etc.  I found that I preferred the patterns that bru carries.  So I am planning to switch my registry to bru before my shower invites go out.
    BFP #1: 2/14/11. EDD: 10/20/11. Missed m/c discovered in April at 12 weeks, d&c. BFP #2: 12/27/11. EDD: 9/9/2012.
  • Having worked at all 3 places in my life I would definitely say go with BBB.  The employees actually have knowledge on the items sold in store and online. and the return policy is the best if you get duplicates or change your mind. and they offer free shipping if they don't have an item in stock which is a bonus for shoppers. and the 20 percent off coupons they accept.

BRU and Target have very strict policies on returns and are not about customer service.

  • I live in Dallas which means that there are actually more centrally located BBB than BRU. BBB is very nice with a better selection and BRU seems a little less nice. The staff at BRU are not friendly at all.

So, I am registering at BBB. However, I do have a small amount of out of town family and friends so I created a small registry at Target for convenience and for anyone opposed to shopping at a baby store. I have duplicates on both registries which I will watch and remove or return if I miss any double purchases. I am also having twins, so most duplicates are not really a big deal.

When it comes to finishing out my registry, I will do my shopping at BBB.

ETA: BBB takes Bed Bath and Beyond coupons so that is a major plus! I have heard that BRU will honor them, but I have never tried it.

  • This is pretty much what a lot of people said, but a main factor should be proximity for most of your guests.  I think most people still like to buy shower gifts in store (or wait until the last minute so that is the only option).  So if you want to increase the chance people might use your registry do what will be most convenient for them.

In my experience, the closest BBB is over an hour away so we didn't consider it.  I do hear very good things about the store.  We registered mainly at BRU and had zero issues.  I had a boatload of returns w/o receipts and very easily returned them for store credit.  I made a Target registry just to get a gift card they offered.  We did receive some gifts from Target and Walmart that we needed to return.  I had no issues at either place since the quantity of returns were below their limits for non-receipt returns.
