1st Trimester

Paranoid Doctor

Hi everyone.  I?m new here and this is a first pregnancy for me.  I went to my first appointment on Friday, which was supposed to only be for blood tests/etc.  I?m really irregular, so the nurse set me up with my 1st ultrasound same day to see how far along I am.  Turns out the baby is measuring at 6 weeks and 2 days and sadly no heartbeat yet.  I?ve read posts on here and misc. articles saying that a heartbeat ?can? be detected as early as 6 weeks, but sometimes takes longer.  So, I wasn?t worried at all by the news, but the ultrasound tech was worried and the doctor asked to see me!  The doctor went over the possibility of a miscarriage and that he was worried I'm having one!  Why the heck do they need to put me through this stress?  I feel like they?re being way too paranoid, but also it?s hard hearing from professionals that they?re concerned.  I can?t help but feel worried now.  What do you think?  Overreaction?  I have a follow up appointment this Friday and I?m trying not to stress until then.  Friday can?t come soon enough!

Re: Paranoid Doctor

  • ugh!!!  how annoying!  Just remember that God is the giver of life and not the doctors... Just speak life over that child until friday at which time you will know whats up...  dont speak the negative out your lips... speak life,, life,,, life...life...life over that baby.  In the end God will have His way be it a baby or not and you will rest knowing you've done all you could do in the life you spoke.

  • Was there anything else that concerned them besides the heartbeat?  What everything else there that they are supposed to see - fetal pole, etc? Did they do any blood tests while you were there?  I'm wondering if they are only concerned about the heartbeat, or if there are other factors concerning them too.

Stay positive, and hopefully everything will be fine!!

They didn't mention anything else, and I didn't think to ask because I figured they would bring anything to my attention, or at least they should.  No blood tests yet, but they have me going in for blood work this Thursday, so they have info to review for Friday's appointment.  Thanks!

  • My friend, who is one week ahead of me in her pregnancy, had an ultrasound at 6 weeks and they couldn't find a heartbeat. She went back again at 7 weeks and had another ultrasound done and there was the heartbeat! My doctor waited until 7 weeks to do an ultrasound. The heart is formed by 6 weeks, but the beating may or may not be strong enough to be heard until 7 weeks. I would wait and see what the doctor has to say this week.

  • Just be patient and more than likely it was just too early to get a heartbeat.  I have a friend who was told by a doctor that she should take (prescribed) medication to allow the miscarriage to begin because it was going to happen anyway, etc.  She didn't do it and we were just at the birthday party of her 2 year old son yesterday!  They don't know everything :)

That gives me chills!  So scary!  I feel like if we don't see a heartbeat on Friday they might push that on me, but can they even be 100% positive they're measuring right?  I might not be as far along as they pressume.  Plus shouldn't my body naturally be capable of doing it's own thing?  Scary scary stuff.  Thanks for the comment.
