NBR...To mommies moving in the next couple of months...

A few words of wisdom hard earned after our recent 1400+ mile move:

 1. This will be a huge test of your patience, pregnancy + moving mess = cranky pregnant lady.

2. Pay anyone any amount you can spare to move your crap into your house.

3. Remember to keep yourself extra hydrated, even if you're just "supervising", it's exhausting and trying to organize from your bed...no bueno.

4. Be easy on yourself with the unpacking. I'm CDO (OCD but in alphabetical order as it should be :) when it comes to unpacking and overdueing it the last few days has led to crazy BH and super cranky me and hubby.

Just my 2 cents....thank God we are almost unpacking...thanks everyone for your kind words during our move!

  • This is great, we close July 11th and move slowly til Sept 15th. I am hoping that makes it easier?!

  • Ugh, we are still unpacking.  My husband has been traveling for the past two weeks, and I have to limit myself to what I can and can't unpack.  Don't even get me started on the garage.  I have no idea where most of his stuff goes, and the boxes are driving me insane!

  • Thanks for the advice, we are moving when I am due...yikes!
  • We moved when our daughter was 3 weeks old. That was easier than when she was almost a year! I would take newborn moving over preg moving any day of the week. Good luck ladies!

  • We JUST got to GA yesterday for our move (drove from PA), which was a 13.5 hour trip. Luckily, the Navy moves all of our crap, but the piles of stuff and boxes is making me super crabby. I am SORE from head to toe from unpacking my whole kitchen today. I'm hurting as much now as I did after the half marathon in March! My advice would also be to take it slow. I know how hard that can be though! I needed these boxes unpacked yesterday ... :P

  • Happy to hear you are almost done and thank you for the tips.

We are moving on Aug 1 and I'm sure I won't be in much shape to do much, even supervising.  Our plan is to hire movers and mark the boxes that need to be unpacked immediately so the rest can be unpacked slowly (when we have the time and energy).

Putting the nursery together will be the challenge... I hope friends and family can come together to help with that.

  • We have been trying to move from our old home of 14 years to our new bigger one since March because I kept ending up on bedrest and dh is working a lot.  I seriously would rather jump off a bridge than do this again.  I am praying that we will be done this weekend so I can take my time putting things away before the baby is born.

I seriously had to help lift a heavy picnic table in and out of our truck and help take down a shed because no one we know wants to help because they are all jerks.  We paid my friends kids who are in their early 20's to help us move most of the big things and they ended up doing $800 damage!!!!  They dropped and broke my washer and my husbands expensive media cabinet (their mom was going to make the pay me back but of course they didn't).  I am so fed up with this now, all I want to do is cry.  I force myself to go there 3-5 hours a day now because I am at my wits end and just want it done, I keep losing weight this pregnancy because of it even though I am 25 weeks.  Ahhhhhhh, make it stop!!! Crying

  • Yup this is so true! I just moved this past weekend to our house transition apartment because we sold our house and can't move into our new one until August. Lucky for anyone who only has to move once!!

  • Nice to know it can be done though.  We're scheduled to close the end of July, and then we've got some time before we have to be out of our current house since we have the option to rent back if needed.  We're going ot take that time to clean up the new house, get painting, repairs, etc done before we bring in all the furniture, and we'll probbaly have DD stay with some family on moving day.

  • Thanks!  We close July 13th and with all the stuff that DH wants to do in the house (paint, refinish floors) we won't move in until maybe mid August.  Yay, I'm going to be even bigger and the weather is going to be hotter!
