  I'm a fan of her paci, probably in the minority but I have no desire to get rid of it yet. We solved the same problem you're having at night by putting lots of pacifiers in her crib, probably 5 or 6 at a time, she normally doesn't have trouble finding them now. 

  This, exactly.  The paci is the only thing that will keep him under control at times.  He has anywhere from 3-6 in his crib at any given time.  I don't plan on weaning him from it any time soon.

  I'm with you... we were ready to ditch it.  I refused to buy more, because they get lost so easily and my dogs are prone to chewing them.  My son will be 1 yr this weekend and we are now on day 4 of being paci-free.

  We have only used it for sleep since he was 6 months.  That transition was fine, it was more difficult on us, since we had to deal with him being upset in a different way (usually diversion). 

  I thought about clipping it, but just decided to get rid of it completely.  His only comfort object is an A&A blanket in the crib, he isn't really attached, but likes the feeling on his face.  We started at night time, I sang him a song and held him with the A&A blanket, then placed him in the crib. He cried for about 30 minutes, at naptime he cried for 15, then 2min at the next nap and nighttime. He still fusses for a minute or 2 now (he didn't before with the binky), but I'm thinking that will go away soon. It was a lot easier than I expected!

  His actual sleep quality is about the same, but I'm expecting it to get better. He used to randomly wake up about 3 times/week wanting the paci replaced (had tossed it out of the crib or it got bound up in the blankets), and so far we haven't had any night wakeups. If you are even considering it, I'd recommend it... this seemed like a great age and for most kids, I'd imagine it will be harder the older they get.

  My pediatrician told me they develop habits between 10 & 12 months of age, so its time to start if we want an easier time of it. We just got home from a 10 day camping trip, and plan to begin weaning this weekend (giving her a few days to adjust back to her own bed)
