HMF and blood in stool

Have any of your preemies had Human Milk Fortifier (HMF) added to their feeds and had an irritated bottom or blood streaks in their stool? 

We were going strong with little to no issues and then BAM this happens last night.  Our twin son that was born last year at 23 weeks developed NEC so that is all that I can think about at this point and I am scared to death. 

I wa hoping that someone else out there may be able to share thier story.

    This could be a sign of milk sensitivity. Talk to the doctors about this, but i am pretty sure bloody stool is a sign of an allergy/sensitivity

    It made H really constipated so they gave him a suppository and then he had bloody stools. He also had green residuals with all of this. His belly was distended but soft and his xrays were fun. I was a basket case but it all passed after 2-3d. Everyone said it's sometimes a reaction to the fortifer which is harder for them to digest. H has had no milk intolerance issues since. I totally hear your fears, but your LO is an older gestational age so lower risk- hoping it all passes quickly!

    First of all, I'm so sorry for your twin loss... I can't begin to imagine how devastating that must have been.

    We didn't have any intestinal issues like that, and I'm 100% convinced it's because my NICU uses Prolacta which is a HMF that is made from donated breast milk. You're probably out of the woods as far as NEC goes at this point, but please ask your NICU if your baby can get Prolacta instead of cow's milk-based HMF. I was so adamant about it that I told them if they were going to discontinue Prolacta then I didn't want him on any fortifier at all.
