Preemie Mom To Be! (Mono/Mono Twins)

Hi Ladies! Just thought I should introduce myself!

I am currently pregnant with momo twins which makes this pregnancy very high risk. I describe it by saying that they can basically poke each other in the face or hold hands (if they're being nice in there!). They share a placenta and an amniotic sac. I will be hospitalized at 24 weeks to be monitored 24-7. I was told they won't let me go past 34 weeks.

Now that I am in 2nd tri and have about 2 months until I'm hospitalized things are becoming very real!!

I was wondering if any of you ladies are mono/mono moms?

I'm hoping my LOs stay cooking for as long as possible but I figured now is as good a time as any to start lurking on this board to get more info!!

Thanks ladies I'm sure I will learn a lot here!

  • I don't have any experience with mono/mono twins, but I just wanted to say welcome and I hope they're able to stay in as long as possible too!

  • Welcome!  My twins were mono/di. We had TTTS complications so I was admitted at 24 weeks and they were not going to let me past 34 weeks as well.  They ended up having to be delivered at 28 weeks and will be 1 year old in a couple weeks!  Lots of good wishes your way to keep those babies in as long as possible.  It's good to hear they are taking all the precautions with you.  I know how scary it can be.  I don't think their are any mono/mono moms on here (that I know of at least).
  • No experience but I just wanted to wish you luck for the rest of your pregnancy. Praying that you can make it to 34 weeks. Please keep us posted.

Welcome - I'm sorry you have to join us here, but you should be able to pick up on a lot to help you prepare for your LOs' arrivals.  If you haven't already done so, check out the preemie resource blog - link is at the top of the main board page.

I hope you can keep your babies cooking as long as possible!

I will definitely check that out!!

    Thanks ladies!!

  • I lurk like crazy but I just had to respond to your post because I'm the proud mama Of two beautiful momo twin girls! It feels like yesterday I was just in your position! I went impatient at 25.5 weeks and stayed there for 8 weeks until I had them 3 days shy of 34 weeks (which was my scheduled c-section date). They were delivered because the flow to little B's cord was not looking as good as it had in the past....twin b was (and still is) my tiny one. My babies were born weighing 4.7 and 3.1-A spent 3 weeks exactly in the NICU and B spent 4.5 weeks in the NICU. Both of them had the typical preemie issues-CPAP, intubation, oxygen, feeding issues, etc. but are doing great now! They both went home on oxygen but are now off of oxygen and doing well! My little peanut B is still super tiny at 4 months old-8.6 pounds but she's slowly growing. You will do great! My biggest piece of advice is ENJOY being inpatient! It will go so fast and before you know it there won't be any time to rest and focus on you! There is a great Facebook page dedicated to momo twins which would be helpful for you to check out. Just search "Monoamniotic twins". Best of luck! You'll do great an before you know it your tiny little ones will be in your arms and you'll be thinking just how worth it all of the inpatient time was. :)
