1st Trimester

Cramping

I recently found out that I'm about 4 1/2 weeks pregnant. I have been experiencing some mild to semi-severe cramping that comes and goes. It feels like a period. Should I be concerned? Any moms out there go through this in their early weeks?

Re: Cramping

  • Yes, it is weird because I was just getting ready to post something about cramping. I have had some very mild cramping every once in a while, but nothing to cause any concern, but tonight it is worse. I feel like they are similar to period cramps too.

  • You ladies don't need to worry :]  It's more than likely either your uterus expanding with your growing baby or gas :]  I had a little scare today cause I had a sharper than usual pain for a little bit when I'd laugh but it was just some gas that needed to go through :]  I was told by a doctor that if it gets to the point of being doubled over in pain, that's when you need to worry.  Otherwise if you feel it's something you should be concerned with, go ahead and call your doctor just to be sure :]

  • I have very similar cramping, it almost feels like menstrual cramps. It started right about a week ago when I found out. I saw my OB today, she said it was normal. It is most likely your uterus stretching and all of the changes happening inside. I've spoken to many other moms about this, and they had the same problem. It should taper off or you may cramp on and off throughout the first trimester. If it goes longer than an hour, if there is bleeding accompanying the cramping, or severe pain on just one side, I would call your doctor's exchange and speak to someone! It's a relief to know other new moms have this too!

  • One thing I noticed about myself is that when I get those cramps, a little while later I have to poop....  Could this be the case with you as well?   I know as soon as I use the restroom the cramps go away.

  • I get cramps here and there, sometimes more painful and sometimes just annoying little ones. Quite normal

Also remember to drink tons and tons of water. Your body will cramp if you are dehydrated.

  • You're probably fine as long as there isn't any bleeding. Cramping is completely normal bc you're uterus is expanding and things are being moved around. With DS i had menstrual like cramping on and off my whole pregnancy. This one hasn't been near as bad. Take a tylenol if it gets too bad :0)

  • I'm 5 weeks along and I've been feeling those as well. At first, I thought AF would be visiting me, but then I took a test and realized she wouldn't.

I've attributed it to gas mostly. I've also read that some go thru it for a while...while others only have it a couple weeks.

    Congrats by the way!
