ringing in ear...

I am 6 weeks and yesterday I woke up with a ringing in my ear and it hasn't gone away....is it a hormonal thing or an ear infection?? and today my throat was kind of scratchy.... Can I take anything for it? Has anyone else experienced this??

Re: ringing in ear...

  • Go to your ENT doctor immediately or get a referral to go to one. Ringing in the ear can last and you want to get treated as quickly as possible. Tell the doctor you are pregnant and make sure that whatever he/she prescribes to you, you double check with your OB. Hopefully this is short lived and will go away.

My H had ringing in his ear for three weeks due to an ear infection a couple years ago. It eventually went away for him but it was scary for a minute. I also think he could have alleviated it sooner had he gone to the doctor right away which he did not do.

  • Yeah, I agree with pp.  I'd probably go to the doc.  You might have an ear infection.

  • I agree too - probably not related to the pregnancy at all - but definitely something to get checked before it gets worse!

  • I'm pretty sure ringing in ears is a sign of low blood pressure. Low blood pressure is normal in early pregnancy due to the increase in blood flow.

  • paired with the scratchy throat, I'd say ear infection. is there pain? I'd call an ENT. I have chronic ear infections, hopefully they'll just give you ear drops, those are usually safe, even more so than pill forms of antibiotics since they don't travel mainly through your blood.
