November 2011 Moms

I haven't felt like this since LO was 2 months old

and had colic like no one's business. He refuses to nap, and has been crying constantly. I've tried putting him down partly awake (like he would normally nap) and that didn't work. I kept him up for long spans of time, gave him a warm bottle and he would fall asleep in my arms. I would put him in his crib, he would wake up 10 mins later and scream for forever until I had to take him out of his crib. WTH happened to my good napper?! I haven't felt this frustrated/overwhelmed with him in awhile and I feel like a bad mommy. He hasn't had any teeth break through yet, though that wouldn't surprise me.

I can't get 5 minutes without him starting to whine/scream.  Anyone else?

  • I'm so sorry you're having a tough time.  I tried to nap train DD over Memorial Day weekend b/c we were home for 5 days and I thought it would be perfect.  FAIL!  Huge fail.  She fought me tooth and nail all 5 days.  She still isn't a great napper, but she did get the point where I can at least lay her in the swing for 20 minutes, but she has to be asleep when I do it.  There are still some days when I have to hold her while she naps to make sure she sleeps.

You're not a bad mommy!  You're probably right about the teeth, it could be bothering him.  Does he sleep in the car?  Stroller?  Is he overtired?  I don't know what else to tell you.  You got through the colic... you'll get through this too!

  • I'm sorry he's having trouble. With the sound of things I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's teething. Have you tried giving him some tylenol?

  • This was us this week, only he was sick. I was having to rock him to sleep and just like you said he kept waking up and crying after I would put him down. Today it has passed and things are back to normal but it sure gives you bad "war flashbacks", huh? Best of luck, I'm sure it will pass too!

  • I'm right there with you!  This last week bedtime has been an exhausting nightmare!  I do everything exactly the same as I always have, but the minute I put her down she becomes hysterical.  One night, I was so sick of the up and down to her room, that I just held her in teh living room while I watched TV, and she slept no problem for 45 min.  I put her down...hysterics!!  ugh, i hope our LO's get over what ever it is soon!

I was thinking this was part of it... combined with possible teething. He used to fuss a bit/cry normally when I would leave his room and he would be left to nap in his crib. But he would get over it and fuss quietly after 5 mins.... now he screams bloody murder like someone is hurting him when I leave the room. It just about breaks my heart.

But he's also crying when I'm with him....... he seems to have entered that "keep me entertained 24/7 or else" phase

  • Ours started getting really bad so I'm tying to work on his separation anxiety- I make sure he can hear me, and play peek a boo, to help him understand just because he can't see me, I am right here if he needs me.  It's a work in progress though.. and everyone says its a passing phase.
