Why are dog beds so expensive?!

The one I want for my old arthritic dog is like $150!  The one she has currently is the perfect size and shape, but she has scratched a big hole in the top while "nesting" before laying down.

Maybe I could figure out how to make a new cover for it...time to bust out the sewing machine and get crafty I think.  It's gotta be cheaper!

  • because they know how much we love our doggies and we'll usually end up spending for it! =) my puppy does the same thing, i thought it was wierd, but i guess its pretty common now!
  • We always buy the dog beds at Costco for $20.  I don't know if they'd be what you're looking for for an old arthritic dog, but they are really fluffy and nice.  I also like that they have cedar in them, which helps absorb odor.

  • I know they have bed covers at Target and pet supply stores for under $20 - can you just get one of those?
  • Try Costco. They're usually pretty reasonable.

  • We bought two cheaper ones at walmart or target and put them both in our dogs kennel so that it is super comfy, must be too comfy though cause our cats sleep in there whenever they can.?
  • She needs something with a memory foam/orthopedic cushion in it for her bad arthritis and hip dysplasia.  We loved this current dog bed and cover, and just buy egg crate foam to fill it with.  It's been really great for her hips, but the dang this was $100.

Now I want one with bolsters on the sides so she will quit trying to lay on my couch...that's why it's so much more money.

    Grr...

  • Earlier this year I bought a orthopedic dog bed at Costco for under $30, my dogs love it.

We buy our dog beds there too. They are excellent quality (especially for the price!).

  • try overstock.com. Last one I bougt from there was awesome and it's holding up really well. I know they used to have memory foam ones. Not sure fi tey still do now.
  • It's a racket. They know our dogs will destroy them and we'll keep on buying. Actually, I used to put a little pillow in my Zoe's crate, but after she chewed the stuffing out of about 4 throw pillows, now all she gets is a sheet. I would love to get her a bed, but I know it wouldn't last.
  • That is crazy. We got one on sale for $20 on black Friday. Definitely hunt around online. We love Drs Foster and Smith and there are a few other puppy sights if you look around.

I buy all my dog supplies from petedge. they have a minimum and shipping but even with that you are well under 100. Or you can easily find more crap to buy to meet the minimum, I always do. GL
