1st Trimester

XP- HCG Levels at 8 or 9 weeks.

I posted this on February 2013, but thought some of you might have more insight since a lot of you are farther along.

I've been spotting so I went to the emergency room Saturday. They did an ultrasound and it showed that I was 7 weeks 5 days and there was a heart beat. I should have been 8 weeks 5 days though. I chart and got myBFP at 9 DPO so I know that I should be 8 weeks 5 days, definitely not 7 weeks 5 days. My betas Saturday were 14,000 and today they were 16,000. They are doing them again Wednesday, but I'm so nervous. I'm not even close to doubling and I feel like my levels should be way higher by now, even if I'm only 8 weeks and not 9. Has anyone else had betas that didn't double? Or this low of betas at 8 weeks?

Re: XP- HCG Levels at 8 or 9 weeks.

  • After a certain point, it can take up to 96 hours for your levels to double. Also, it is possible that you miscalculated or you ovulated late, it does happen. I'd relax and be glad that you had a heartbeat. Also, not everyone has the same levels at the same point in their pregnancy. There is a wide range of normal.

Did they measure the heart rate? I would be more interested in knowing that number than betas personally.

Your numbers look normal to me. I did a quick search on doubling times and here's the first result that came up:

     https://www.countdowntopregnancy.com/tools/beta_doubling_calculator.php

According to the link, your doubling time should be 72-96 hours. Also, even if you know when you ovulated, implantation time can vary. For what it's worth, DD measured a week behind my whole pregnancy an she came out perfect.

They didn't measure it. It was a student, a resident and a doctor in the room and they did it so fast. I asked what the heart rate was and the student said it looked like 160, but it was never offically measured.

Thank you for that link and I feel better knowing your DD was a week behind too. I'm just anxious to see what the numbers are Wednesday.

If the heart rate was anywhere near 160, that's great! I would think they would have looked really close if it had been really slow. To me, that a good sign!

I hope your betas continue to rise! Try now to stress too much about the numbers. They tell you a lot more earlier in pregnancy than they will tell you now.
