Babies: 9 - 12 Months

pack n play or sleep?

I am going to start trying to nap my DS in the pack n play since he will be in one in daycare in Sept. Up until now he mostly napped in seat, a couch(safe of course) and sometimes his crib when we were home. I feel like he will happily play in the pack n play and he seems fine going in it with toyes. My question is, will it be hard for him to separate its space for play vs. sleep? Any tips. I feel like when I lay him down in it he either cries or stands up.

Re: pack n play or sleep?

  • Well, DS as always taken his naps in his crib since he was about 3 months old, so when he needs to nap in his pack n play at daycare/my parents it's never been an issue. I think you should try to have your LO nap in the crib as much as possible so the transition isn't so hard or different.

Are you sure he'll be in a PNP after 1? A lot of daycare use cots after one.

Really!? I can't imagine my son sleeping in a cot right now. That seems very unsafe to me.

Now that you mention it, I think my daycare prov. uses mats after the pack n plays. Most of you mentioned using the crib, I guess I was thinking PNP so when we need to use it at times he isnt unfamiliar with it. Also, its on my bottom floor so its convenient but I could most def. use his crib too. Thanks for your insights.

  • just wondering how you make sleeping on the couch safe?  what if he falls off?  Do you put cushions on the floor?  how high is your couch?

at my daycare, they use cots, and the cots are literally like 4 inches off the ground, so even if they rolled off...it wouldn't even constitute as a fall...just a slip.

99%  of the time I would be sitting on the couch next to him. If I got up I had couch cushions and pillows all over the floor.

  • At certain age he will not like playing in the pack n play. I would use it only for naps. Also for extra comfort and support I recommend using the MamaDoo Kids mattress topper (our DS would wake up every hour!). It is firm and it folds so it very portable. Good luck!
