MIL put LO on her tummy on a fluffy comforter on their bed to nap when she watched her for a few hours. I came to get her and she was in the there by herself...not happy. MIL bought a RNP on her own and baby sleeps in there at their house. All good for now. My mom helped us at our house at first when I was healing. So she knew the ropes about no blankets in bed and we are putting her to sleep on her back. So my mom watched LO for 2 hours this weekend. I get there and she has LO in a small antique baby crib that my dad and his siblings slept in, he is 70, she is on her back but she is covered with a thick baby comforter that is up to her mouth. She said she measured the slats and they are a little too wide. At least she was in the same room and watching her...but still. As soon as LO made a peep I pulled the comforter back and picked her up. My mom will be watching her 1 day a week so I will bring her a swaddler and have her use that. There was a lot of company there when I came to pick her up so I didn't say anything in front of them, but I will before she watches her again. The funny thing is my mom has 8 other grandkids and they all slept in a pack n play...why does my baby have to be "special"?

Ugh.

Re: Just when I think everyone is on the same page...
Ummm... So your MIL did one thing that you didn't like and your mom did another thing? Just want to make sure I am reading this right.
I would just insist on the back sleeping, swaddle, and pack n' play. Tell them that this is what is safest and this is what you want. No blankets... etc... If they think that LO is chilly they can layer a onesie or pj under the swaddle.
They should respect this.
I just don't understand why they can't just put the baby on their back and not use a blanket, especially after you specifically ask them not to. Do they think that you won't notice or care? Sorry you have to deal with that. I would be upset also.

Yes they each did one thing. I get along with both of them very well and they are both very laid back so I figured I wouldn't have any issues. They are both well aware. I was more upset with my mom b/c she had been in our house multiple times and knew what we did. I just need to go over the basics for LO while she is at her house when she starts watching her. She told me she had gotten the crib and I told her maybe it could be used for dolls for the other grandchildren to play with and she had agreed. Oh well I just needed to vent.

omg, i can totally relate to this!
it is so frustrating. my SIL live 1.5 hours away so occasionally when they visit they end up staying overnight.
some things my SIL have done that have totally irked me bc i've told them not to do it.
1) Insist on giving the baby formula so I can rest. when LO was 3 days old she gave him a bottle of formula while I was sleeping.
2) Put LO in his crib with a regular sized pillow and rolled blankets propped up against his sides so he wouldn't roll
3) Ask me if she can pop the "white spots" (milia) on his face.
I know she means well. The good thing that has come out of this is usually I'm a very easy going sometimes passive person, but since having LO I've found my inner assertive self!
Hang in there!!
