I know stays vary for vaginal and c-section deliveries but how many comfy outfits should one pack?
Bonus question: I plan to buy my nursing tanks and bras soon...how many do you think is good to have if we do weekly laundry? Target seems to be most recommended, correct? I plan to get some soft bras to sleep in and underwire for at home during the day.
Re: To continue w/clothing: How many PP outfits to pack?
I think I had two full outfits? I'm planning to pack three this time, I think -- 2 nursing-friendly nightgowns and a going home outfit. So, four, if I'm able to get into my laboring outfit, too.
I had I think 5 nursing tanks from Target. I recommend getting the ones with lace on top. Of course, I also had two very large ones I rotated before I could move down to my normal mediums.
As far as pp outfits, i only packed one to come home in. I wore the hospital gown for 2 days and my own nursing friendly gowns the other days.
I have two built in bra nursing tanks, a nursing bra, and a sleep nursing bra. Those seem to be enough for me to do laundry once a week. I may get another sleep nursing bra though.
I had 2 full cami/pj outfits plus my shirt and shorts for going home. I also packed 5 pairs of undies so that if I leaked or giant pad shifted and I ended up with a mess, I had plenty. I was glad in the end that I had so many because we stayed a few extra days.
I am no help with the nursing bras/tops because I cannot nurse.
I'm packing two pants and three tank tops. I figure the first day I will just stay in bed under the covers like last time. This time I will wear a tank top.
As far as the tank tops go, last time I got the ones from target. They shrunk a lot, and I ordered two sizes bigger than my normal size. I could wear them, but they were tight. They also weren't very long. The other day I bought some from motherhood maternity. They are softer, stretch better, longer, and more true to size than the target ones. They were buy three get one free.
I packed two and wore them both since I was in PP all day Saturday and half of Sunday. I'm hoping to leave the next day this time but will still pack 2. If needed, I will have my mom bring me some more clothes.
ETA: I think I have 3 nursing tanks and 3 nursing bras. I don't have any underwire nursing bras and only BF for 8 weeks so I didn't get into buying cute bras.
I'm only going to pack 1 outfit, and I'll have the outfit I'll go to the hospital in. With a c/s I just wore the hospital gowns w/ a robe. I didn't want anything rubbing on the incision.
I am an overpacker by nature and I think I packed a few nursing tanks, 1 nursing bra, a pair of pj Capri pants, 1 pair of black yoga pants, 1 nightgown, several pairs of cheap underwear, BUT I ended up with an unplanned csection so we stayed many more days than I was expecting to.
First, I had one nursing friendly nightgown but it was long-sleeved! (what was I thinking!) I was so hot because of the medication and DS was itty-bitty and had trouble maintaining his temp, so he was in a warming blanket, THEN our heat had to be turned up (it was like 90 degrees out) I was dying of heat! I had my mom run out to get me sleeveless nightgowns and a personal battery-operated fan- which is totally getting packed this time around, just in case!
Second, i hadn't really thought about a csection, so the pants/tanks were not what I wanted to wear. I loved those cheap nightgowns from TJMaxx and threw on a robe for visitors.
DH went home to shower twice, since we were there Sat nite through Wed or could I could have had him pick up things at home too. So, you could always pack what you think you'll need and then leave some items at home, say in a designated place, so if anyone goes home they could grab it.
For my c-section stay last time I had 1 comfy nursing gown and 1 pair of pants and 2 tops. I was frequently topless with a hospital gown to throw over me when someone knocked because I'm all about skin-to-skin contact. I may have had more clothes packed, but that is all I wore.
This time I hope to have 2 nursing gowns/pajamas with me and I hope to only be there overnight. I definitely wanted more functional clothes the first time.
As far as nursing bras go, I have seen a lot of recommendations to only buy 1 before you have the baby, and to wait a few weeks after birth to buy more. You really don't know what size you'll end up with. That was certainly true for me - the 2 I bought before baby were off by a few cup sizes.
I don't remember what I packed, but I know that day 1 I wore the hospital gown. Day 2 I wore my own PJ pants and a cute nursing PJ top with a sports-bra style nursing bra underneath (hello uniboob).
I had a nursing tank from Target and I didn't love it. It made me feel like a stripper, don't know why, just something about how the top came down. Not like I've seen a zillion strippers in nursing tops, either, but it just made me feel not good. But, I also am fairly well endowed on top and I really just need something for daytime that's more supportive and in a bigger size that target offers. I liked the glamourmom tank tops for night time/sleeping. If I was a smaller chested girl I would have worn them daytime too. I also found the Bravado nursing bras better for daytime. And, I have to say, that I changed sizes in the first month. I was measured at week 37 for my nursing bra and by 4 weeks post delivery the band was too big on my rib cage. When nursing was well established and I had not had trouble with any mastitis or clogged ducts and I went back to work I purchased underwire bras for work days. Bare necessities has a good selection IMO that don't make you feel like you are wearing your grandmother's bra. (maybe your grandma wore sexy ones, but my grandma's were big, white and awful looking)
These were my favorite:

I was in the hospital for 25 hours last time, so I wore 1 outfit...home.
Do not buy more than 1 nursing bra before your milk comes in! I have big boobs, so I like Medela & Hot Milk bras and Glamourmom nursing tanks (the G&O ones from target were always really short on me).
I think I packed 2-3 comfy outfits that could be worn day and/or night.
I bought 2 nursing bras & 2 nursing tanks to start with. I brought 2 of them with me to the hospital.
I ended up buying about 4 more to add to my rotation afterward.
I had four nursing tanks, 2 nursing bras, and one "fancy" nursing bra. I'll probably get a few new tanks since they really got their use.
I had two Gillian O'Malley ones from Target and two Motherhood Maternity snug ones. Loved both of the styles for different reasons. My bras were all Bravado and they were worth every penny. They are still in fantastic shape and I will be able to re-use them all!
I will take 3 outfits. Last time I wore the gown until we came home and I look like a whale in all of our pictures.
Also I had 3 nursing tanks last time and that was plenty for me. I also spent a lot of time at home with just DH and I so I was fine in a nursing bra or whatever.
