Since we're talking about what to wear home... how about what are you going to wear IN the hospital? I saw a baby story or some show where this woman brought her own gown... had to get special permission to wear it... do people really do this?
After a quick search on Amazon, it seems so... 'hospital gown' had over 7,500 results. (maybe those are for people with super extended stays... not someone who is going to wear one 24hrs only to get it gross during birth?)
But alas, they have maternity gowns:
This one says $24-$1,000... SURELY thats a typo???? Also, that model is hottttt
His & her maybe?
Wait for it... matching pillow set

Re: To wear in the hospital
Yes, people do spend $$ on this. I'm kind of whatever about it. If you want to waste your $$, by all means. I'll stick with the hospital freebie.
The day after DD was born I was in yoga pants.
LOL at that stuff. I guess some people do buy that stuff!
I wore the hospital gown for most of the first day & threw on a zip up house coat that I brought when visitors came & I was up & about (which wasn't much). Then I just wore loose fitting sweats & a nursing tank. Then again, threw on my house coat for coverage when visitors were there.
I wore the gown the hospital provided and wore it for 24 hours after birth because they kept coming in to check on me every hour - it was just easier for them to lift the gown up.
After that I wore PJ pants. I wasn't putting on a fashion show, I was lucky I had a shower! haha.
Thatshit makes me LOL. What a waste of money.
I wore the hospital gown the first day/night of my c/s. The next morning when I got up to shower, I put on my own clothes. I wore tank tops with loose fitting pajama type pants and a robe over the top. I felt so much better in my own clothes than in the hospital gown!

I bought a laboring skirt and was really happy I did, but I know my labor may not have been the norm for most women. Luckily, my hospital is all about whatever is most comfortable for me, so I was able to.
I'd never buy a different hospital gown, but there are other options.
Haha, great outfits.
I think I'll bring a nursing nightgown or dress to wear post-partum, for the first 24 hours. That way, I'll be able to nurse and they can do their checks easily. Plus, if I have to have a c-section, I figure a gown/dress would feel better than pants.
I'll bring some yoga pants to wear after that, barring a c-section. I'll probably wear that with a tank top and a cardigan/wrap (lift tshirt and button cardigan if breasfeeding while guests are there).
I'll probably go home in a maternity sundress.
I'm so torn on this issue, whether to hate the "trend" of buying a designer hospital gown or not, but I guess I can see it from both sides:
Personally, it's just not worth the money to me. I'd rather spend that money on a comfy nursing tank or something. At the same time, though, if there's a new mom out there who would feel comfortable in something that makes her feel pretty, then I can't really hate on her for that. (Although, coordinating gowns with your spouse? Really? Who does that? LOL)
In the hospital, I plan on bringing Old Navy yoga pants/sweats, nursing tanks, and a couple hoodies. Lots of comfy socks, too.

I just wore the hospital gown while in the hospital, I had a pretty nasty delivery including an episiotomy and lots of swelling due to a vaccuum extraction. I had diapers filled with Ice/ witch hazel in my mesh undies and the nurses had to check on my swelling/ healing every few hours, so much easier not to have to take pants on and off.
although, almost all of my hospital pics with DS I'm wearing that completely flattering hospital gown, wish I was in something a little nicer, even a hoodie I wouldn't have minded!
As long as the pants ride low or the waistband can be rolled, you may be okay in pants. I've done pants after both of my c/s and felt much better in those than in the gown. Just fyi!

Thanks, that's good to know!!
I considered getting a "pretty pusher" gown last time around because hospital gowns are so awful, but decided not to. I did get a stretchy bra top (like a sports bra but thinner) that I was able to leave on the whole time, which made me way more comfortable.
As for PP, I wore a cami and pajama bottoms the whole time because my own clothes were so much more comfy and I was not comfortable being so close to undressed when people came to visit afterward.
With my first, I also wore the hospital gown until I was able to take a shower the next day. Then I slipped into one of H's shirts and pair of basketball shorts. Super comfy but I don't think they matched that well...
This time, I'll definitely bring a robe and a more put-together outfit. We're thinking of doing some hospital shots with a friend who's a photographer, so I'd need something a little nicer for those pics. But my no. 1 goal is comfort.
As far as during L&D? I will either be in a hospital gown or naked. I'm going to bring a tank top and make a nightgown I don't mind being ruined just in case I want them, but I fully expect to spend the later part of labor naked.
ETA: I also expect to be in a labor tub while in the hospital, but from what I've read and seen (with clients), it is quite common to be so hot you just take your clothes off. I also know well from my own experience that you have no way of knowing when your water will break, so I won't wear anything I don't mind getting messed up.
So glad you posted...I'm not sure I'll be able to deliver if my gown doesn't match my pillow!
I just want to be comfortable, and hadn't really thought about how I will feel in a hospital gown in front of visitors (DH has 4 siblings who will all visit in the hospital). It's a good thing to consider - I don't think I want my butt hanging out when the crowds start rolling in...
This sounds like my style!
