My LO is 7mo. 1 week and we started introducing baby food at 6months, before that she was EBF. So what I am wondering is, when you are introducing the baby foods, you should only introduce 1 thing at a time for the 3-4 days to make sure there is no allergic reaction, but when do you stop that? If you are introducing table food and finger foods, do you still have to do the 3 day thing?
Re: Finger foods and table foods
We waited 4 days on the basic stuff, but started at 5 months...now we just feed him whatever.
That being said..his gag reflex is so strong that most stuff he just gags on and pukes up, so we are still on a lot of purees. He loves green beans and is fine for those from my plate broken up into small bits. He is also fine with puffs...but anything else he gags so hard on.
our pedi also said waiting and doing things one food at a time wasn't as big of a deal, she kind of shrugged when I said we weren't doing it and said not to worry that she doesn't really recommend it.
I think if you wait til later to introduce food you don't need to be so cautious UNLESS LO is having issues - like if you notice lots of gas, constipation, throwing up, rashes as you introduce food, you might want to slow down and do things one at a time to see if you can isolate the trigger. But if you've introduced a lot of foods without issues, I think I'd stop doing it one at a time and just see how it goes.
And like PP said, in the BLW book they do say that this is a bigger deal if you start solids before six months. Mainly this is because their intestinal cells are still "open" before that age and more likely to develop allergic reactions.
