my dr doesn't do prenatal/deliveries anymore

I am totally thrown for a loop now. I finally got up the nerve today to make an appointment and was told this. They gave me two other names that are practicing, but i have heard nothing about them at all. I have contemplated calling a mw, but it is basically homebirth or nothing and also not covered by insurance (which will pay 100%). I may still call the hb mw for the consult appt and maybe recommendations. Also, when i was going through secondary IF, i saw a complstely different dr that threw clomid at me (so.i was less.tham.impressed with his abilty to help with IF (but he is an ob/gyn not an re..so mayne to be expected), but he is further away and delivers at a.completely.different hospital. Ugh! I just don't know what to.do. how do other people pick their drs?

Re: my dr doesn't do prenatal/deliveries anymore

  • The first baby I just went to my OB, but it's a large practice, so I was assigned a random OB, who ended up pregnant and due the same day as me!  She had her baby before me, so I ended up seeing someone else the last month (she did my csection!)  I saw a completely different person at the hospital, who discharged me.  It all worked out.

This time I picked the only OB in our city who will deliver vbacs, so I'm kind of stuck with him whether I like him or not!

I would just randomly pick an OB in your city and if you really hate them, you can switch, but in my experience, they are usually all about the same. :)

  • I don't get to pick my doctor. I wait on a list for years and then go to one that is taking patients. While I wait on the list if I have a problem I go to the ER or a clinic. Good luck at least you have a couple options.

  • My OBGYN was totally random and I really like her so it worked out well.  Hopefully you can have good luck and feel a connection after meeting one.

  • I see in your signature that you have two LO's, I would ask your mommy friends which ob they used for their deliveries and how they like him/her and what they liked or disliked about that particular ob and the practice. I find that they best way to find anything is to just ask around.

  • I am in the same boat. This just happened to me, too! He told me back in February before my miscarriage that he would be able to do it for select patients and he would able to take me on as a patient. Now, he is no longer taking any patients for prenatal/delivery. He will be recommending a doc for me, but it's not the same.

  • A very similar thing happened to me...  I was crying because that's who I thought would be with me on this journey and instead it was a total stranger.  It is all working out just fine, though!!  I hope it all works out for you as well!!
