I've realized I would much rather use a hybrid system exclusively rather than pockets (fuzzibunz etc.) for less laundry and cost. From what I've heard from other moms, it's tough to fit a newborn in the Grovia AI2 shells with the soaker pads without getting leakage on the side gussets which are mesh and will stain/smell ;( They are rated to fit 8lbs+ but I'm sure if they have skinny legs or runny nb bm's it could be a problem. I love the idea of the mesh inside the cover of the grovias for babys comfort and not getting red marks on her legs, however when nb potties are explosive, i think id be washing the covers way more.
Am I crazy to consider putting a nb prefold wrapped on baby's bum along with the cover and soaker pad? If bulk wasn't a problem, this would keep the potential leaks enclosed in the prefold while still utilizing the waterproof backing of the soaker pad so that the mesh of the cover is fresh and re-useable (a huge selling point for me)
Just curious if anyone who uses the grovia's could speculate on my frugally inspired idea. I know it's probably a pipe dream to only use one style of cd from birth to potty training but hey, it's worth asking. If thats not possible I have no problem breaking down and getting a few nb thirsties with prefolds to use until she grows into the grovias.
Re: Grovia AI2... make them work for newborn?
Ditto.
Thanks ladies! I realize that in my last-minute planning craze I can tend to overthink things a bit
My biggest issue with thinking of doing prefolds and covers is it sounds like the pul material tends to rub babies' legs red... but if that doesnt become an issue for us i'd love the simplest, cheapest option!
It's also great to hear its possible to use Grovia exclusivley (once baby is big enough) and you're happy with them
All the covers have binding around the leg holes so the pul doesn't really touch their skin there. Grovias are good covers but I feel they leave just as many red lines as my other covers. Pretty much any cover can leave a little line.
This. Covers, and really CDs in general, are going to leave marks and lines. It's like when you wear jeans and get markings around your waist from them. Same idea.
