Tackiest fb post of all time

I have a "friend" on fb who actually started a collection site  asking people to donate money to pay for school.  Am I the only one who finds this tacky?

Re: Tackiest fb post of all time

  • Oh my... What kind of school? For herself? Her kids? Either way, yes, that's very tacky. I would unsubscribe or defriend but first I would probably report the post as solicitation.

  • For herself. I completely sympathize the times are tight and she's a single mom, but I was shocked at the idea of asking for money.

  • One of my friends did this to get people to sponsor her to move to south america some where to do missions trips & start schools, I even found that tacky because she posted asking for money 5 times a day.

  • Wow, that is really tacky. Yeah times are tough, but they are tough for everyone, not just this narcissistic piece of work.

I could totally see if her husband had just passed away and she had to go back to school to get a career to be able to support her children. But that doesn't sound like the case. How about apply for scholarships like the rest of us. There's literally thousands out there.

Nope, not that case at all. And I basically said the same thing, it would be one thing if she was suddenly put in the position to have to go back to school, but she sat at home for 2 years after her daughter was born and lived off her parents. Even now she works a whopping 10-15 hours a week. And then complains about her parents and how tough it is to live there.

Now, if she was raising money for a friend or a charity I wouldn't bat an eye lash, but it's the fact that she's trying to ask for hand outs for herself.

  • I have a friend who asks all.the.time for money to help pay for her tuition.  She is single, no kids and is 30 years old.  I feel like every semester she has a post for a week or 2 asking to help fund her tuition.  She even provides a link that we can click and donate $$.  Ridiculous!
  • So tacky!

I hate being put on the spot for money collections in general. I posted a long time ago about how it happens on a weekly basis at work. So far this week, we have had two collections. The first is for somone who is retiring. I do not mind adding to that (although the expected amount of $20 kind of hurts.) Another was because someone's aunt in Africa died (that she had not even seen in 10 years). The collection had nothing to do with paying for a funeral or a plane ticket or anything. It was just a collection of money to give to the mourning nurse. Sorry .. I don't have $20 for that crap. They literally have collections at least weekly. I helped pay for someone's divorce last month due to peer pressure from my co-workers. So stupid.

I hate when people expect me to just hand over my hard-earned money. Times are tight. If you want more money, work harder. Don't look for hand-outs.

That's exactly what she did too! And made a comment like even $5 dollars helps/

yup I remember that and I would be equally frustrated at some of those collections. I remember you saying someone got fired and they started a collection.

  • I had a friend from high school do that, asking to help her family save their trailer and buy her a new car.  Their goal was $10,000.  Her husband works and she stays at home.   She posts all the time about things they buy.   New living room furniture one month, a new big screen TV the next, redecorating their daughter's room, and getting her tanning bed delivered for her woman cave!  That was before she posted asking for donations.   Just recently she posted about their trip to Disney, the new above ground pool they installed, and the new flat screen they bought for their two year old son to put in his room.   Really?  How about saving your money for a new car or to save your house instead of buying your to hear old a TV for his room?  They are a bunch of special rednecks.
